2. Dresses For a Good
Cause
Moore's Sewing Center possesses a strong
commitment to community service and
charitable causes. One of the many
organizations supported by Moore’s
Sewing Center is Laura's House. The
business donates dresses for this domestic
violence service center and refuge, which
partially supports itself by selling such
high-quality donated items in its thrift
shop.
3. Dresses For a Good
Cause
Laura's House was founded in 1994, three
years after a handful of Orange County
women came together to create the South
Orange County Domestic Violence Action
Committee. Their ultimate goal was to
create a shelter for battered women. A
woman contacted them and related the
story of her daughter, a woman named
Laura who had suffered domestic abuse
and died at 38 years of age. The
Committee decided to name their shelter
Laura's House in honor of Laura.

Thanks to widespread community support,
Laura's House has grown steadily since
1994, and now provides many different
services and programs that deal with all
aspects of domestic violence and its
prevention. It is the sole state-approved
provider of comprehensive domestic abuse
services in South Orange County. The
organization has provided shelter to over
3,400 battered women and children, and
other forms of aid to more than 10 times
as many people.
