1. 5 Things The Google Nexus 7 Needs To Address
Author: PhonearenaIndia (http://phonearenaindia.com)
Google has announced the Nexus 7 tablet packed with high end
specs and a surprisingly affordable price. But does that make it
the best tablet yet?
Google is all set to launch its latest product, the Nexus 7 tablet in mid-July. The tablet packs
some powerful punches and comes with an amazingly affordable price tag. People have already
started talking of the tablet as an iPad killer. But we think it might be a little premature to call it
that. However, we believe, if Google addresses the following 5 things in the Nexus 7, it could
well be on its way to becoming a true iPad competitor.
For starters, the Google Nexus 7 packs a 7-inch HD display supporting a resolution of 1,280 x
800 pixels. The tablet is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core Tegra 3 processor along with 1Gb of
RAM. The device boasts of additional features like NFC capability as well. The tablet comes
with a 1.2 megapixel camera located on the front face.
The Nexus 7 is expected to take on the industry leaders like the Apple iPad and the popular
Amazon Kindle Fire as well as the forthcoming Surface tablet from Microsoft.

2. 4G LTE Option
Google has decided on a WiFi-only Internet connectivity option for the Nexus 7, which means,
those looking for the 4G LTE version of the tablet, might have to wait for some time. Google
should have integrated a 4G LTE option with the Nexus 7 if it aims to give the iPad a serious
run for its money.
Considering the fact that the Nexus 7, with its 7-inch display, is not as bulky as the 10-inch iPad,
most people people would find it convenient to carry around and a 4G LTE would have made for
a nice addition. Considering that LTE is fast gaining popularity on account of its extremely fast
data speeds, a lot of people are going to miss this option on the Nexus 7.
Storage Capacity
Google has announced two variants of the Nexus 7- one with 8GB of internal storage capacity
and another with 16GB. Now, personally, I would find even the 16GB worth of available space
as too small for my requirements, as would most people. The 8Gb version is simply unthinkable.
A tablet is a media consumption device and simply people use these to pack all sorts of media
to be able to access them on the go. And considering that the tablet does not have a microSD
card slot, makes it even tough. I would love to see, at the very least, a 32GB, or for that matter,
even a 64GB version of the Nexus 7 tablet.
This is the first generation of the Nexus 7, however, and I hope Google understands the need
for more space in the future revisions.
Camera
The camera on the Nexus 7, a 1.2 megapixel shooter at the front, feels a bit on the poor side. I
admit the fact that a lot of people don’t use their tablets for shooting images, but, come on, 1.2
megapixel? That’s a real dampener. As mentioned above, the Nexus 7 is a 7-inch tablet, and
hence a lot more handy. It would be comforting to know that the device has a usable camera
when you really need it. Another great option would be the inclusion of a rear camera. You
don’t want to limit yourself to taking just self-portraits all the time, do you?
A Killer Mojo
The Nexus 7 seems to lack a killer spec- the one go-to feature of the phone that screams, “Bye
me, instead of the Amazon Kindle Fire, or the iPad.” Sure the tablet boasts of some real neat
specs and all, but it does lack that one feature that sets it apart from the rest. Sure, it’s the only
device to feature Android Jelly Bean, but that won’t remain a novelty for long. Besides it’s
price, there is is nothing else that really jumps out at you.
Marketing
Google’s Nexus 7 is a late entrant into a market which is already teeming with tablets from all

some extent Amazon and Samsung, Google will have its task cut out in terms of marketing the
Nexus 7. The tablet will face some stern competition from both, the iPad 2 and the New iPad, as
well as Amazon Kindle Fire which is also affordable and has a loyal consumer base. In the
Indian scenario, there are a number of those “budget” tablets to contend with as well.
Besides, Google will also face competition from the soon-to-be-launched Microsoft Surface
tablet. Looking at it from all quarters, Google will need to really push its products in order to
break into the tablet market. Google’s overall popularity with web users might help, but it’s not
going to be a cake-walk for sure.Related Mobile and Tablet News and Info at
