2. Should…
Should euthanasia be permitted?
If so, should it be limited to certain patients in
specific situations?
What regulations should exist?
3. What…
What is euthanasia?
Euthanasia refers to the practice of ending a
life in a painless manner.
Euthanasia can refer to animals or humans.
It can also be voluntary or involuntary.
4. Why…
Voluntary euthanasia and physician assisted
suicide have been the focus of great
controversy in recent years.
Some people feel that patients should have
the right to decide how they die if they are
terminally ill.
5. Or…
Others believe everyone should wait for their
own time to die.
There is, of course, no way to look back and
rethink euthanasia.
6. The terminally ill…
The terminally ill are patients who are going
to die, there is no way around it.
Only question remaining… when will they
die?
Is that decision up to the individual?
Or does that answer lie with some form of a
god, or nature, or something else…
7. The law…
As of now only three states actually allow this
practice.
One is Oregon, as of 1994
Montana, as of 2008
And Washington, also as of 2008
8. More laws…
Each state has varying laws on the matter.
This is one issue not dealt with by the
national government.
The local government also gets little pull in
the matter.
Power lies in the hands of the state officials.
9. Survey results…
As of now euthanasia of any form is illegal in
the state of NY.
As the survey shows, however, there are
many who feel that this should be changed.
10. Survey…
The survey results lead to the understanding
that many people, especially in NY, feel that
euthanasia should be allowed for those with
short lifetimes left.
Why make them suffer longer?
11. More survey…
In the case of vegetative patients, most feel
that it should lie in the hands of the family
whether or not life support remains
If there is no hope, why fight it?
