3. Hypothesis
I believe that the Press & Seal will keep the moisture
out the best because I have worked with it before and
it has always kept the moisture and the air out.
4. Variables
Constant - same amount of water, same type of
apple, and same size of wrap.
Manipulated – the type of wrapping.
Responding – best moisture out wrap.
5. Materials
A knife, four plastic containers, an apple, a graduated
cylinder, water, and three types of wrapping.
1. Glad Press & Seal
2. Glad Cling Wrap
3. Great Value Clear Plastic Wrap.
6. Procedure
Gather materials.
Separate four cups.
Measure 200 mL of water per cup.
Cut apple up into four slices.
Put control slice into cup without wrap.
Wrap second slice in wrap A, try to touch only skin.
Take third slice and wrap in wrap B, touch only skin.
Clean hands to try to get finger oil off.
Wrap fourth piece in wrap C, touch only skin.
Put apple slices in their cups.
Place on table near wall.
Watch apple over a period of one week.
Carefully take out apples in the wrapping, touch wherever.
Unwrap, only touch edges.
Wash hands as good as possible.
Have each person feel each apple slice.
Rate and graph. 1- feels and look like the control. 5- feels and looks like it was before.
8. Conclusion
Our question was what food wrap (plastic wrap) would keep the most
liquid out. We tested three different plastic wraps those where glad
press n’ seal, glad cling wrap, and great value cling wrap. We also had
a control which was a apple slice in water not covered with plastic
wrap. After we had put them in water and recorded the data in three
days. We unwrapped them on the last day and recorded the results by
how the apples felt and looked. The control was the worst it was a
darker brown then the rest and was mushy it also had 190 mL of water
from the beginning 200mL. press n’ seal was brown but more solid
then the control it had a lot of water in the wrap and had 112mL of
water left but also no apple juice got in water. The great value cling
wrap was the had the same look as the Press n’ seal, 180mL of water
was left and a little juice got in the water there was also a lot of water
in the wrap. The glad cling wrap had the same look as the other two
wraps and 185mL of water left also most of the juice got into the
water. Overall the best was the press n’ seal since it kept most of the
juice in more water out then the other two wraps.
