3. Meet Ryan…
Hi, I’m Ryan. I’ve been in my current role for three years
and feel like I am ready for a change. I haven’t applied for a
job for a while, but can’t imagine too much has changed…
let’s see how it goes – can’t hurt!
4. He starts to have a look around…
I take a look on “seek”, “monster”
and other random places including a
few company websites
5. I see a bunch of jobs I
‘applies’ for think I could do and apply
– it’s so easy to submit my
a few roles… CV
6. and waits to
Sometimes I hear back, sometimes
hear back… I don’t…
7. Then he sees his DREAM job!
Finally I see a job I am perfect for….I
really want to go for this one!
8. Thinks about the best way to
make a great impression…
I try to stand out by making my CV a little
different – hopefully I get noticed.
9. and things seem to be on track…
I get a call telling me that they
would like to interview me!
10. But it takes two weeks to find a time.
I go back and forth with someone from
the company to arrange a time that suits
both ends for an initial interview…
11. Time for the interview he’s been waiting for.
I go for the first interview – it’s with 2
people (hopefully that means they are
really serious about me!)
12. But, it didn’t go as well as he hoped…
I walk away and am not really sure
how I went. It appeared a little
informal and I’m not sure I
connected with them both…
13. A few weeks go by.
I finally get a call. Although I was
thinking the worst, they want to
interview me again!
14. and he gets another interview…
I have to go in for another
interview. I wonder what they will
want to cover in this one?
15. More of the same, but a little better this
time (he thinks!)
I get interviewed by 2 people (1
new person). They ask some of the
same questions.
16. More waiting. More thinking.
I walk away feeling quite good. How will
they rate me? I wish the other person in
the first interview was there...
17. But things don’t work out….
I get a call saying that unfortunately I wasn’t
successful on this occasion and they wish me
all the best for the future : (
18. and he reflects on what went wrong.
It’s not so bad. I still have my current job – they still like me – BUT I
really wish they had all seen my second interview….surely this would of
made a difference….I wonder what else I could have done to convince
them that I was the perfect candidate?
19. Next time around…
I heard about TalentBox from a friend who included a ‘personal
brand video’ as part of his last job application. Maybe I can use this to
stand out from the start and get my message across loud and clear!
