2. The level of laptop accessories has
been elevated, thanks to a
manufacturer that has made it a
priority to make products that
make laptop and general gadget
care easier and more
sophisticated. The entire industry
has also expressed excitement
over ZAGG ‘s HzO product line
that promises your gadgets to be
waterproof without the
unnecessary bulkiness or the
tacky designs.
3. ZAGG actually started off as a
company that acquired the
majority of the rights to the
WaterBlock technology of HzO.
4. ZAGG then made HzO into its own, almost
independent private company. ZAGG thought it
would use the technology with all their devices, and
then make these devices directly available to
customers.
5. However, HzO
went a little
rogue and
went into
discussions
with other
manufacturer
s on how to
integrate their
products with
these other
manufacturer
s’ products.
6. ZAGG is still not out of the picture at
all. In fact, it is still HzO’s biggest
investor. The current setup seems to
work as HzO products are gaining
more popularity as perhaps the only
provider of technology that ensures
gadgets, including laptops to be 100%
waterproof. The technology employed
by HzO is called WaterBlock, which
includes a process called vacuum
deposition that can be applied after a
device is built.
7. These laptop
accessories can be
applied easily if added
during the
manufacturing stage
of the gadget before
the outer shells of the
laptop are installed.
8. HzO uses a proprietary
non-toxic, organic gas to
ensure that the film is
securely fastened within
the gadget it is
protecting. In
demonstrations, trade
fairs, and conventions,
HzO proves the the
efficacy of its laptop
accessories by
submerging gadgets that
have the HzO protective
film in water
In some exhibits, HzO representatives use
gadgets with clear shells to see what
happens when water gets inside them. Of
course, the gadget still functioned properly
without sustaining any damage from water
exposure.
9. Several questions have been
raised about the efficacy of
the product especially when it
comes to the nooks and
crannies of the gadget which
may welcome moisture. For
example, what about
headphone jacks where the
film could get rubbed off with
regular headphone insertion
and removal
10. However, representatives of the company
claim that the HzO WaterBlock coating
material does not only get applied on the
outside of the jack, but on the inside as
well. Thus, even if the external material may
be chipped off already, the headphone jack
assembly would still remain waterproof, and
therefore, still functional. Users of this
accessory must remember though that this
technology is intended for accidental
submergence. Therefore, as much as HzO
displays its products to protect a laptop for
prolonged exposure in water, it is not
exactly designed for users to use with their
laptops when they go diving or swimming.
11. The Waterblock material created
waves at the CES held at the
beginning of the year. Smartphones,
cameras, watches, laptops, and other
mobile devices were treated with the
material and showed sufficient
protection. Any gadget that may fall in
water or be exposed in high humidity
areas have more than enough security
to still be usable.
