Yesterday, we talked about taking action. Today we’ll talking about planning for that action and having proper goals.
The fact is, action is great. Nothing happens without it.
But just blindly taking action probably won’t get you to where you want to be. A ship taking the action of sailing, but doing so without a course, isn’t really getting anywhere, is it?
That said, you need a plan of action, and you need proper goals.
Yesterday, I quoted Johann Wolfgang von Goethe on taking action:
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do. ”
Today, I’ll quote him on goals (obviously I’m a fan of his):
“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, magic and power.”
The key here is to be bold with your goals. To steal a little from Napoleon Hill, “whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
And it’s true.
In that vein, Hill also says that you wouldn’t desire things you couldn’t achieve or obtain.
With that, most people set their goals too low, instead of the common misconception of people setting goals that are too high.
I remember when I was a kid and my feet were growing constantly and I was alway ripping through socks.
I remember thinking that my “problem” would be solved if I only worse sock one time and then discarded them. Because of that, I set a goal of having enough money to buy enough socks to never wear the same one twice.
Being young and naive, I guess I thought socks were expensive.
The point though is this:
If I would have stuck with that goal of having enough money to buy enough socks to never wear any more than once, I would have been happy working at a sweatshop. Doing that would have given me more than enough resources to attain my goal.
The goal obviously was not set high enough.
And luckily, I adjusted my goals. And as they say, the rest is history.
The question is: have you set high enough goals in your business? Are you striving to reach your goals, sometimes even coming up short? Or are you coasting to your business goals, having set them too low?
Remember, it’s always better to shoot for the stars. This way, if you fall short, you’ll at least get to the moon. After all, a mediocre goal–at best and when reached–leaves you with mediocrity. And a mediocre goal not reached leaves you with pretty much nothing.
2. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
Last time out, we talked about
taking action. Today we’ll talking
about planning for that action
and having proper goals.
3. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
The fact is, action is great.
Nothing happens without it.
4. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
But just blindly taking action
probably won’t get you to where
you want to be.
5. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
After all, a ship taking the action
of sailing, but doing so without a

anywhere, is it?

That said, you need a plan of
action, and you need proper

7. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
Yesterday, I quoted Johann

action:
8. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do. ”
9. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
Today, I’ll quote him on goals
(obviously I’m a fan of his
quotes):
10. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin

In that vein, Hill also says that

The point though is this:
20. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
If I would have stuck with that
goal of having enough money to
buy enough socks to never
wear any more than once…
21. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
I would have been happy
working at a sweatshop.
22. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
Doing that would have given me
more than enough resources to
attain my goal.
23. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
The goal obviously was not set

24. Are You Setting High Enough Goals?
Now luckily, I adjusted my
