Working for Food Reg
1. FoodReg is a specialist provider of compliance management and traceability solutions, with an
emphasis on the food sector. We provide consultancy, software and data capture assistance to
private companies and governments in Europe, Middle East and South East Asia. Currently we are
implementing projects in Spain, Malaysia and Indonesia, but have involvements in other parts of
the world such as Palestine, Vietnam and Thailand. Our main business comes from assuring our
customers’ claims, be it the sustainable production of palm oil , the elaboration of Halal foods or
other claims. We also help our customers automate their data capture processes using RFID and
alternative means of automated identification and data capture. We are active in the European
research arena and speak frequently on international conferences. Just google us.
TALENT @ FOODREG
FoodReg, apart from being an international company with development offices in Barcelona
(Spain) and Cyberjaya (Malaysia), also is a rapid application development platform for compliance
management solutions and for traceability applications. The platform is 100% homebuilt,
including our very clever XML database XiReg. XiReg is a very generic distributed XML database
with native traceability, i.e. the capability to recover the history of an item. (Well… it’s a bit more
complicated than that.) Using Java Server Faces, a GUI technology, we have managed to separate
the application development from the platform development. This allows our subject matter
consultants to create client applications with very little support by IT personnel.
Working @ FoodReg will provide you with a lot of personal challenges: our
software platform requires excellent Java skills, our clients require ingenious
solutions and our distributed work environment over different time zones
requires us to communicate efficiently and work transparently.
FoodReg was founded by the charismatic Robert Madge, a British entrepreneur
and Internet pioneer. After having successfully created one Fortune 500
company, this is his second large involvement. Given this background, it is hardly
surprising that an essential part of our credo is that exceptional people make a

2. Recruiting you @ FoodReg will be our International Technical
Director, Dr Heiner Lehr.
Heiner holds a PhD in Natural Sciences (“summa cum laude”) from
the Technical University Berlin. He has a long career in international
IT, specialising in consulting and development of large-scale
international projects. He has worked for a large variety of
companies, including media giant Bertelsmann AG. Before turning
his attention to food, he has led prestigious projects in the area of
supply chain management and was also a pioneer in interactive
television.
RECRUITING YOU @ FOODREG
In 2003, he joined FoodReg as its International Technical Director and has been actively involved
in traceability and food information management since then. In Thailand, he has been the Lead
Consultant for the Thailand National Traceability Project for the Thailand National Bureau of
Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards. He was the International Technical Supervisor for
the Malaysia Food In-formation and Traceability (M-FIT) Project, a national traceability project for
Malaysia. In Vietnam he has designed a traceability system for seafood for the Ministry of
Agriculture. He regularly speaks on international conference about food information, traceability,
Halal assurance and sustainability. Heiner is very active in palm oil traceability for FoodReg largest
private client, Sime Darby, taking special interest in sustainability and green house
gas emissions of this commodity.
Heiner leads the EU research project BrightAnimal on Precision Livestock Farming
(a marriage between IT and farms). He represents FoodReg as a key partner in the
work of TraceFood (see www.foodtraceability.eu), which is integrating the results
of three European research projects. He is one of the main participants in the
definition of the EU-sponsored work to create an open standard for the
interchange of traceability information (TraceCore XML). Heiner has been
appointed a Reviewer for the European Commission to revise the progress of its
funded projects and was an officially accredited observer to the
10th MSC Malaysia International Advisory Panel.
