As a boy growing up in Amarillo, Texas, I spent
much of my time ensconced on the family ranch,
herding cattle, riding horses, and exploring the vast
expanses of rugged backcountry just outside my
front door. Amarillo was a different place back then,
smaller, quieter, and less crowded than it is today.
Despite the many changes the city has experienced
over the course of the past few decades, it retains
the Old West charm I developed a great fondness
for in my youth. If you plan on visiting Amarillo,
don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience the
best of what our unique Texas outpost has to offer.

Outside of my professional responsibilities as
President of the Coldwater Cattle Company, I
oversee daily operations at Coldwater Ranch, a
property my family has owned for generations.
Tourists flock to Coldwater Ranch year-round for
some good old-fashioned rest and relaxation, taking
part in activities like horseback riding, fishing,
hiking, and waterskiing on the ranch’s private lake.
At night, guests unwind from a long day at the main
ranch house, kicking back in front of a roaring fire
after a home-cooked meal of tasty Southern-style
comfort food. For more information about Coldwater
Ranch, visit www.cwranch.net.

Off the ranch, the Route 66 Historic District boasts
an array of shops, restaurants, and performing arts
venues. If you’re in the mood for a great meal,
duck into the Golden Light Café for a hamburger
considered the best in town for over half a century.
Other must-see attractions easily accessible from
Coldwater Ranch include the Amarillo Museum of
Art, the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Wonderland
Park, the Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, and Palo
Duro Canyon State Park, one of the largest state
parks in Texas.
