2. Volkswagen has enjoyed much success in recent
decades with several small, performance models
including the GTI. The German automaker hopes that
this success will find its way to the iconic Beetle as it
is releasing a sporty GSR edition this fall. This limited
edition model, with just 3,500 copies to be sold
worldwide, takes its inspiration from classic 1970s-
era Beetles.
3. Beetle GSR
Some 40 years have come and gone, but Volkswagen
believes that the GSR has a following that will
translate into sales. GSR -- Gelb Schwarzer Renner or
Yellow Black Racer -- presents a dramatic look, one
with black striping and coordinating accents on a
bright yellow frame. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter
turbocharged four cylinder gasoline engine making
210 horsepower and 207 foot-pounds of torque. A six-
speed manual transmission is standard; a six-speed
dual clutch automatic transmission is available.
4. This front-wheel-drive model is all about catching
your eye while it grabs the road. Bi-Xenon headlamps
with LED treatments, a panoramic sunroof, keyless
entry with push button start, Bluetooth connectivity, a
Fender Premium Audio System and heated front seats
are among the amenities found in this model.
Volkswagen also equips the Beetle GSR with a media
device interface, ambient lighting, a boost gauge and
a clock with a stopwatch function, the latter to help
you test your performance.
5. Black/Yellow Contrasts
Seating surfaces are yellow/black with contrasting
stitching. Leather treatments are found across the
seats as well as on the steering wheel and shifter. An
R-line dashboard pad, black floor mats and yellow
embroidery give this Beetle visual pop. Yes, if it looks
like a yellow jacket, will it sting like a bee? Visit us in
