• at researching the people & companies with
whom you want to work
• at figuring out what the company needs

8. gain trust
• tell the employer there are no hard feelings
if s/he doesn’t like your work
• blog so the employer knows about you
• distinguish yourself with free work

9. be realistic
• you might need to work on projects after
you get home or on weekends
• you need to budget time & money
• know when to ask for paid work

• these tips can work even if you’re over 50
• adjust the tips to suit your personality
• get a day job while building your portfolio
