It Really Works
Hypnosis is a proven technique that allows people to reprogram their
subconscious to change unwanted behaviors. Most books on self-hypnosis
require the reader to memorize or record scripts, then put the book aside
while they do their hypnosis work. But Instant Self-Hypnosis is the only
self-hypnosis book that allows you to hypnotize yourself as you read, with
your eyes wide open, without putting down the book. The authors fail-
proof method allows you to put yourself into a hypnotic state and then use
that state to improve your life in myriad ways. And because the hypnotic
state is induced while you read, you remain aware of your surroundings
and can bring yourself back to normal consciousness slowly and gently,
using the instructions provided.
2. Personal Review: Instant Self-Hypnosis: How to Hypnotize
Yourself with Your Eyes Open by Forbes Robbins Blair
There are many positive reviews out there - I don't think I need to add
anything to them. I will restrict myself purely to trying to describe my
experience of using the book.
A little background: I first came across self-hypnosis many years ago,
when I read a book on hypnosis as a teenager. I occasionally tried it and I
was able to hypnotise myself. However I didn't get much out of it because
firstly, I didn't have much of an idea what to do once I had hypnotised
myself, and secondly, I kept falling asleep in the middle of it. This second
point led to my primary use for it: I still hypnotise myself if I can't sleep, and
on occasions I can be asleep almost as soon as I've coun ted slowly to ten.
So this book: the pre-written scripts and the advice about how to create
your own scripts, solve the first of my problems, and the fact that you do it
sitting up, with your eyes open, solves the second.
So what does it feel like to have tried to change behaviour through self-
hypnosis? I've tried it for a number of different things, but one good
example:
I was finding that I was procrastinating ridiculously when it was time to go
to bed. I would watch more TV, read more, check email, check news
online, whatever. I just didn't seem ready to go to bed until tiredness was
forcing me to, normally a couple of hours after I should have been asleep.
Inevitably, I was not getting enough sleep and was waking up tired.
I used the book's guidelines to create a script and used the script. The
process of self-hypnosis itself didn't really feel that remarkable: nothing
surreal, no floating, nothing dramatic. It was hard to be sure that I was
even hypnotised.
However come bed time, I increasingly feel a mild urge to go to bed, as
though watching more TV would not be a good idea, as though bed is
inviting, and where I should be at that point of the day. I can over -ride it if I
want to (indeed I have at times) so it's not a feeling of compulsion, and I
always feel in control. It's just that I want to wrap up the day and get to
sleep at a reasonable hour, and I increasingly do.
And that's just about it - that's really what I wanted to get out of it. I know
that I will use the book for many other things. If someone is prepared to
give it a go, I expect that the results will be very worthwhile. From my
perspective, the book is a great find.
