A new approach to indirect bonding /certified fixed orthodontic courses by Indian dental academy

  1. 1. A New Approach to Indirect Bonding INDIAN DENTAL ACADEMY Leader in continuing dental education www.indiandentalacademy.com www.indiandentalacademy.com
  2. 2. Disadvantages of Indirect Bonding • highly technique-sensitive procedure • occlusogingival insertion of a transfer tray causes the adhesive-coated bracket to scrape along the long axis of each tooth- uneven distribution of the adhesive > perpendicular placement - direct bonding • when opaque transfer trays are used, the putty covering the palatal surfaces prevents light-curing from the palatal or occlusal side. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  3. 3. This technique…its unique • modified acrylic platform in which the putty is placed only on the labial and buccal surfaces - easier access for light-curing. • L-shaped handles are squeezed together to flare out the transfer tray, allowing placement of the brackets at right angles to the tooth surface www.indiandentalacademy.com
  4. 4. Procedure www.indiandentalacademy.com
  5. 5. Brackets placed on working cast with water-soluble adhesive www.indiandentalacademy.com
  6. 6. Working cast centered on flat, horseshoe- shaped platform www.indiandentalacademy.com
  7. 7. Putty applied over buccal surface of cast www.indiandentalacademy.com
  8. 8. Putty pressed through hole in platform www.indiandentalacademy.com
  9. 9. Two sticks of acrylic bent at 90° angles and attached to buccal sides of putty tray to form handles www.indiandentalacademy.com
  10. 10. Completed transfer tray Posterior regions of transfer tray flared out by squeezing handles www.indiandentalacademy.com
  11. 11. Tray tried in patient’s mouth Midline marked on transfer tray www.indiandentalacademy.com
  12. 12. Bracket bases cleaned with brush Primer applied to bracket bases www.indiandentalacademy.com
  13. 13. Primer applied to bracket bases www.indiandentalacademy.com
  14. 14. Combining the Advantages • uniform adhesive distribution - perpendicular bracket placement • precise placement and shorter chair time • more clinically efficient than the methods previously used in our department • extremely rotated teeth - easier to bond brackets directly www.indiandentalacademy.com
