PAST ROLES - DIRECTOR 1995: Le Confessional 1998: Nô 2000: Possible Worlds 2003: The Far Side of the Moon
I watched one of his films ‘the far side of the mood’ It was very interesting and was done in absolute perfection in terms of cinematography by the continuous use of graphic matching. Where shots would fade into a similar looking subject in the shot but keep the story on a flowing and smooth basis, Lepage cleverly used graphic matching mostly between the switch from a fantastical unreal scene to a scene of reality, but in such a delicate way that it continued through the film smoothly.

The 3 pictures you have just seen is an example of the clever graphic matching cinematography he uses in his film. The shot shows Lepages’ face looking through the glass of a washing machine window and then pulls away in the screen further away slowly, changing its angle and creating a drifting off effect. Before you know it the ‘washing machine’ he looks through turns into a space aircraft floating in space but still has Lepages face looking through the glass.
That is just one of many examples of Lepages’ use of cinematography and his clever usage of linking shots to create a drifting atmosphere of space.
