2. Mise en scene
•The location is a very peaceful resort, it looks like a place you could call
paradise. Its also a place that you would not think of anything bad happening
•The actors are carefully chosen they are an English family, who all look very
happy and innocent good people
•The costumes are swimming wear and the mother is wearing shorts and a top,
to show the audience it is extremely hot there and that they are on holiday
•The movie set is phenomenal; they use a huge wave machine to make the
tsunami possible
3. Camera
•During this one minute clip of the film, there is a medium close-up, a
wide-shot, a three-shot, an over the shoulder shot, and a few close-up
shots
•There are camera angles pointing up to the sky, showing the birds fear
of them flying away; it tells the audience something bad is going to
occur
•The camera zooms into the actors to show the fear and confusion on
their faces of what is about to happen
•The cameras have to be waterproof and they have special cameras that
can film underwater, to create the effect that the actor is underwater
4. Editing
•There are a lot of shots of nature, that do not look peaceful, for example
there are the birds flying fast away from right to left, the flowers that
shake, the trees shaking and then start to fall down, this is telling the
audience that something unordinary is going to occur
•When the tsunami actually hits the Resort building, on the set they use a
model with a massive green screen and a wave machine behind it, to make
the tsunami look so real and the actual props themselves are miniature
•They keep cutting to the mother, then the dad with the two boys and then
the boy on his own, to show the audience how they are not together and to
show there reaction to the tsunami
5. Sound
•The sound effects are so realistic, in the background you can hear the cricket
noise you hear abroad in a hot country, the birds tweeting recklessly, loads of
people screaming and shouting faintly in the background, getting louder to build
up the tension
•When the massive tsunami strikes, there is a huge gushing of water noise
•The sound is diegetic as the characters can hear all the screaming etc.
•As soon as the tsunami occurs everything becomes so much more louder to
shock the audience with this awful tragedy that is happening to this innocent
family
