India's Mangalyaan, also known as the Mars Orbiter Mission, was India's first interplanetary mission. It was launched in 2013 on a low-cost mission to develop the technologies required for interplanetary travel. Mangalyaan successfully entered orbit around Mars on its first attempt, making India the first nation to succeed on its first Mars mission and the first nation to do so on a shoestring budget of just $74 million.
