Catch Media Introduction
1. CATCH MEDIA -- CONVENIENCE FOR THE CONSUMER AND
MONETISATION FOR THE INDUSTRY
Imagine: You are on vacation in Italy and all the music you’ve ever collected,
whether purchased on CD, downloaded, burned, etc. is available on your
Blackberry phone, and also on your spouse’s Nokia phone.
Imagine: Your entire physical music collection is lost or stolen, and when you
want, you can replace it immediately for only a nominal charge.
Imagine : you are renting a car to drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles and
you turn on the radio, and all your music just shows up through the car stereo.
Imagine: You are in a hotel room in London and you turn on the television, and
all your video collection – your DVDs, as well as your current TV selections from
your HOME TV, are available to view.
Imagine no more. With Catch Media, all of these scenarios are a reality
today.
Using digital media continues to have two major vexing drawbacks today:
(1) For the content creator and distributor, there is no system that can track,
report, clear, and thereby monetise digital content that moves across
different media. Today, there is simply no comprehensive sustainable
system to allow content creators and distributors to continuously monetise
their content; and
(2) For the consumer, there is simply no system that allows for seamless and
convenient use of their media collection and services across multiple
devices and platforms.
Catch Media resolves these shortcomings with its revolutionary Play
Anywhere™ technology and content licensing methodology.
FOR THE CONSUMER:
Catch Media deploys proprietary patented technology and a suite of services that
allow consumers to seamlessly and conveniently listen to and watch their music,
TV and video collections and services, and share their digital media wherever
and whenever they want across multiple platforms.
FOR THE INDUSTRY:
2. Catch Media deploys a sophisticated registration, tracking and clearing house
system, that, in conjunction with its revolutionary Play Anywhere™ License,
provides content owners and content distributors a sustainable vehicle to
monetise their content on an ongoing basis. For the first time the industry will
now monetise stolen content as well as re-monetise purchased content.
Catch Media’s revenue model is built around the premise that the consumer is
willing to pay an incremental price for the convenience of being able to have
seamless and constant access to his or her media. That price, whether it is a
monthly subscription fee, or a one-time use fee, is split among all the participants
in the value chain, from the retail outlet that registers or sells the content, to the
content aggregator that holds the content, to the content distributor that delivers
the content and all the technology enablers in between.
The Play Anywhere™ License is a unique license: While traditional content
licenses only give holders either the right to sell, the right to rent or the right to
stream/broadcast digital media directly to the recipient, the Play Anywhere™
License gives Catch Media the broad right to transmit media content directly or
indirectly to a subscriber whenever he or she wants and to whichever device he
or she designates, provided only that the relevant media content is deemed to
exist in the subscriber’s collection of content.
INITIAL PARTNERS
Universal Music Group, the world’s largest music label, and Warner Records,
recently executed a worldwide Play Anywhere™ License for all of their music and
video content. This agreement represents a real milestone for Catch Media and
a very clear validation of the company’s revolutionary business strategy. We are
also well advanced with negotiations for a license with EMI, Sony, MCPS/PRS
Alliance. Merlin, and PPL. These will be in place by the end of 2008.
In addition, the Endeavor Agency, which manages the writers, producers, actors,
and directors of large number of the top TV shows in the U.S., entered into a
strategic partnership agreement with Catch Media in January 2008. Ariel
Emanuel, Endeavor’s founder, has introduced Catch Media to the top executives
of the major record label and film & television studio. Ari believes that
accountability and transparency of the access of media content is crucial in the
digital age.
Catch Media is currently in discussions with the other major and independent
labels, publishers, movie studios, physical and on-line retailers, content
aggregators, cable companies and cell phone manufacturers and carriers to join
the Play Anywhere™ ecosystem.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Once a subscriber is part of the Play Anywhere™ network all of his/her content is
easily accessible and new content is easily added. When the subscriber wants
to access his or her content, the Play Anywhere™ system simply “points” to the
content aggregator that can most seamlessly deliver the content to the
3. requesting device (cell phone, car radio, hotel television, etc.). The subscriber
pays a monthly fee or one-time use fee to the system provider (which could be
BT, Sky, Virgin Media or others) and Catch Media serves as a clearing house to
distribute the remaining revenues to all the other value added providers.
