SKILL STRATEGIES: We’ve also revised some strategies that you should work on your own throughout the year.

-SPEAKING: giving effective oral presentations (how to organize info, useful lexical chunks to convey different meanings and to structure your
speech, functional language, body language conventions, peer assessment, self-assessment, academic english, speaking oral exam checking
criteria etc.). Use of oral discourse markers. How to talk vaguely (-ish, kind of, sort of..), how to exaggerate. Improving fluency with advanced
lexis chunks

-WRITING: writing process (pre-writing steps, while-writing, post-writing: the importance of revision, using a checklist, and the importance of
being aware of your mistakes and write them down and revise them every time you write, writing exam checking criteria). Apart from that,
proper use of connectors. Paragraph Distribution. Error Correction. Class top mistakes when writing; things to improve. Word formation to
enrich your compositions, correct use of prepositions, rephrasing, useful lexis chunks for writing exams.

-Study skills: how to mind map, how to make the most out of your readings, autonomous learning using the blog and researching for authentic
material, skimming, scanning.

GRAMMATICAL CONTENTS:
You’ve worked with grammar in all the units, most of them were grammatical points to be revised from previous years. Remember to work with
the extra activities at the end of the book and your workbook and grammar book. And the most important thing: Activate the new structures
that you’ve learnt so far!

PRAGMATIC CONTENTS (FUNCTIONAL LANGUAGE, DISCOURSE, ETC):

We use functional language in almost all the activities we tackle in our classes. The ones we have overtly seen so far: how to greet, how to
suggest, accept proposals, reject proposals, how to agree and disagree, how to give your opinion, how to ask for opinion, how to express your
preferences, how to express your likes and dislikes, how to talk about advantages and disadvantages, how to express surprise, how to give bad
and good news and respond to them, how to ask for info and how to complain, how to describe pictures, how to spectulate, how to express
probability (among others), how to describe objects (shopping), how to haggle, how to react when shopping, how to complain when shopping,
etc, how do describe processes, give instructions, how to express a final purpose, how to exaggerate, etc... Try always to work with this
functional language.

We’ve also studied how to use language in different registers (formal vs informal, spoken vs written) and differences between them.
Apart from that, we’ve learnt how to use connectors appropriately and coherently and discourse markers in spoken language.
SOCIOCULTURAL CONTENTS:
We’ve covered these contents thanks to Steven’s classes (USA culture) and with many of the material we are using on a daily basis in class
(authentic material, some festivities: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)
Christmas recipes!

KEEP WORKING HARD!! And REMEMBER TO STUDY, TO READ AND TO LISTEN TO AUTHENTIC MATERIAL EVERY
DAY!

Good Luck and Happy Summer 2012!!

