Four Dental Implants Stories From New York City Residents Whose Lives Have Been Changed, PART 4
1. Four Dental Implants Stories From New York City Residents Whose Lives
Have Been Changed, PART 4
Welcome to the final installment and dental implant story! It has been the goal of this four-part article series to present
to our readers what other New York City residents have had to say about their experience having one or more teeth
replaced with dental implants. In doing so, we hope to spread awareness of the sophistication of this technology in
addressing a wide variety of tooth loss cases. We have just one more story for you and it’s by highflying New York
business executive Alice Powell, so without further ado…
The Dental Implant Story of Alice Powell, 46
“I’m the CEO of a company in New York City and given the demanding nature of my work I often find myself on the
road, on the phone or in the boardroom. Sometimes, I do all three at once. When I’m not working, I’m schmoozing with
clients and business associates at pretentious cocktail parties or expensive restaurants, which leaves me precious little
time for myself.
“I began noticing a decline in the appearance of my smile in my mid-30’s. I used to have stunning white teeth, but I
guess this business brings you down in more ways than one. I drink a lot of coffee and used to smoke a box of cigarettes
a day. I also don’t get much time to look after myself the way I should and so I tend to neglect to floss. Being sociable is
about 80% of my job; so having a great smile and good teeth is fundamental. It was only when I began experiencing
severe sensitivity in one of my canines that I finally “bit the bullet” or so to speak: it was time to see the dentist.
2. “I went the following week to a dentist in downtown New York City – one my secretary recommended – and after a
cleaning, examination and X-rays, she explained that the offending canine had a deep cavity in it and that some of
my other teeth required some restorative work done. Unfortunately, however, the canine needed a root canal, which
just didn’t take. I was back in her office a month later with even worse pain… the tooth needed to be pulled.
“I was initially horrified. Being a canine, I could hardly hide the fact that I was missing it and the ramifications for
my personal presentation and confidence would be disastrous. The dentist recommended replacing the tooth with a
dental implant, because this technology is regarded as the best treatment approach in the industry. I said yes and
I’ve never looked back.
“I would tell you what it’s like living without one of my natural teeth, but I can’t because I simply don’t know. I had
the old tooth extracted and replaced on the same day and as soon as my implant healed, it felt exactly the same as a
natural tooth. Aesthetically, you can’t tell the difference either and the whole journey has been quick, easy and
virtually painless.
“I always thought that losing a tooth would be a disaster for my smile and my ability to be socially confident.
Thankfully, dental implants prevented that from happening. The only thing that’s changed really is that now I
MAKE the time to brush and floss every day and I return to my new dentist in New York City for routine check-ups
twice per year. All I can really recommend is that everyone, regardless, does the same.”
