Periodontal Therapy- Scaling is the process by which plaque and calculus are removed from both supragingval and subgingival tooth surfaces. Root Planning is the process by which residual embedded calculus and portion of cementum are removed from the roots to produce a smooth, hard and clean surface. Dental Prophylaxis: Treatment for the prevention ofperiodontal diseases or other dental diseases by thecleaning of the teeth in the dental office using the procedures of dental scaling and dental polishing, whichincludes removal of supra- and subgingival plaque and calculus, checking of teeth, restorations and prosthesis. Periodontal Maintenance: To minimize the recurrence and progression of periodontal disease in patients who have been previously treated for gingivitis and periodontitis, includes scaling, root planing (where indicated) and polishing. Specific Goals- Minimize the bacterial challenge to the patient 1. Self-care measures (Oral Hygiene), 2. Professional care (Plaque and calculus removal).
