Speaker Biographies
Christopher Lyons
Chris has extensive experience in strategic planning, corporate governance, international banking
and finance. His diverse career spans 35 years firstly with Abbey National, where he held senior
positions of increasing responsibility in Audit, Finance and Operations. He was appointed to develop
and spearhead Abbey Nationals’ innovation unit and Group wide strategy for Electronic Commerce
and International Banking creating and launching Cahoot the online Internet Bank. Chris then joined
the executive board of Minster Trust Ltd, a fully regulated banking institution as Head of Commercial
Relationships he spearheaded the development and launch of an affinity based Internet banking
proposition
Since retiring from full time employment, Chris has developed over the last 10 years a portfolio career
based upon his corporate governance, planning and programme management expertise and network
of international business and finance connections. He has been a strategic advisor to the Baltic
International Bank based in Latvia, and the Russian based Otkritie Financial Corporation acting as its
non-executive Chair of their London operation for four years. He is also an Associate with Beer
Mergers Ltd., where he advises a diverse range of organisations, on strategic finance matters and in
particular corporate transactions, start-up operations and new ventures.
In addition to establishing a range new business opportunities Chris is an experienced strategist,
project and company director, and has held a number of non-executive director positions including
Maritime and Underwater Security Consultants, Deputy Chair Network Housing Group and Chair of
London Strategic Housing.
Chris is an Alumni of London Business School where he studied Corporate Finance, he holds a
Masters degree in Strategic Financial Management, is a visiting fellow of Kingston Business School.
In addition he is on the MBA advisory Board of Durham Business School and a member of the
Council at Hull University. A published author his most recent publication is “Building a Portfolio
Career” which is the definitive “how to” book on portfolio working.
Rowena Ironside
Rowena spent 25 years as an executive in the ICT industry, including the start-up and sale of a
successful IT services company and leadership of several large, multi-national professional and
managed services businesses. Over the past ten years she has built a second career as a non-
executive director, consultant and angel investor. She has held executive and non-executive roles in
the not-for-profit and start-up sectors and spent 2010 working with a microfinance charity that makes
loans to women in sub-Saharan Africa.
Rowena is an experienced SME director and charity trustee with particular expertise in strategy,
technology, governance and finance. She is currently Chair of Compassion in Dying, a charity that
supports and empowers people at the end of life and executive Chair of Women on Boards UK, an
open, action-oriented organisation for women seeking to leverage their professional skills and
experience into board and leadership roles.
Malcolm Lewis
Malcolm has over 30 years’ experience as a corporate finance strategist, board facilitator and Senior
Management Team (SMT) trainer with Strategic Value Partners (SVP). Originally a chartered
accountant by profession with KPMG, he has diversified into working with top teams to link the soft
and hard organisational dynamics by undertaking assessments, facilitations and coaching of both
individuals and SMT groups. In addition Malcolm travels the world training in strategic leadership,
strategic and business planning along with financial statement analysis and valuation. As a wizard
and corporate alchemist he helps teams turn base strategies into gold plated valuable companies,
whilst recognising that this must start with a personal and collective awareness of the
psychodynamics of the entity. This exciting work is with both public and private sector organisations
ranging from billions of turnover to a few hundred thousand.
In his past Malcolm has undertaken over 30 company restructurings or buy-outs either as an advisor
or investor and still advises as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Bath University on their MBA
programme. Malcolm has degrees in Business Administration (BSc) and Financial Management
(MSc), lectures with a number of leading Business Schools in Executive Development and in the past

has played international golf for England (Captain), Great Britain and Ireland and won the silver medal
in the British Open.
Judith Levy
Judith Levy is the Vistage Chair for Bristol, Bath, Swindon, Taunton and the South West and is
currently launching a Peer Advisory Group for local Business Leaders. She is also a Business
Mentor, Relationship Coach and Retail Consultant.
Judith was the former CEO/Chairman of High and Mighty International, the high street fashion brand
for big and tall men where she specialised in brand creation, innovation, strategy and development,
rolling the concept out to Greece, the Middle East, Scandinavia and the Netherlands through own and
franchised stores and a highly successful E-commerce operation.
In 2009, High and Mighty was sold to a British PLC and the group was divided. After a period working
from Amsterdam, helping the Dutch subsidiary to rebrand and find a new identity, Judith decided to
bring her skills to a wider field. She is now a sought after Business Coach, Mentor and Consultant in
areas of Organisational Culture, Transformation and Problem Solving.
Judith now works closely with Entrepreneurs and SME’s. She brings acute perception and an
exceptional eye for detail to all aspects of business activity and has a powerful instinct for uncovering
hidden blocks to success and perfecting business timing.
She has a keen interest in best practice, sustainable business models and is a passionate advocate
for ethical business behaviour. Judith has studied for an MBA at Oxford Brookes University, has an
MA from Bath Spa University and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She has trained as a
psychotherapist served as a board member of a national children’s charity for over 10 years.
She is bilingual in Spanish is married to Howard, has 2 grown up children and loves travel, music,
cycling, dance and yoga.
David Doughty
David Doughty is Chief Executive of Excellencia, which provides Board effectiveness and Leadership
development services to organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors. He is a director of
Executive Transitions Network, an organisation that supports those who are embarking on or already
have a portfolio career and he also chairs the Thames Valley Health Innovation and Education
Cluster (TV HIEC) which is a publicly funded partnership authorised by the Department of Health to
improve innovation and education within the NHS across the Thames Valley.
Previously he was Chief Executive of the Oxfordshire Economic Partnership (OEP) - a partnership
between private, public and voluntary sectors, which was responsible for strategic economic
development across Oxfordshire and ensuring that the county is a competitive sub-region, both
nationally and internationally.
David was one of the first Chartered Directors and holds a Masters Degree in Company Direction
from Leeds Business School
Luke Boxall
Luke places senior interims into a cross section of companies and specialises in the public and third
sectors. His main skill areas include Project Change, Project Management, as well as Finance and
Accounting.
He started his career in recruitment in 1987 with Computer People in London placing IT contractors.
He moved to Bristol in 1992 after being promoted to Contracts Manager and was responsible for the
UK’s most successful contracts team.
In 2004 he was head-hunted by Robert Half International to lead their Management Resource division
across the South West. In 2012 he was recognised by Robert Half International as one of their top 3
worldwide recruiters of Senior Interims.
Nigel Harrap
Nigel is an experienced professional who spent 20 years in the engineering sector (Textiles. Paper &
Board and Recycling) before moving to Executive Recruitment and starting his own Headhunting
partnership in 1994. Focused on owner-managed SME clients, the partnership specialised in finding
seasoned non-Executive Directors for clients and developed a portfolio of private equity investors
willing to act both as non-Execs and participate in the equity of the businesses.

Joni Farthing
Joni Farthing is the founder and director of Women Outside The Box – Britain’s biggest festival of
female entrepreneurship. Earlier in life, whilst her daughter was growing up, she ran a home-based
business before founding Oxford Language Training. She grew this into a major language school and
sold it before moving to the USA.
Women Outside The Box encapsulates the best of networking, business show and conference. Its
mission is to encourage women to consider self-employment and to grow businesses that can provide
for themselves and their dependents all the way through to retirement, come what may. Aware that
women’s instinctive nurturing response can make them risk-averse, she is interested in how women
can retain their indispensable caring role whilst fulfilling their potential as entrepreneurs.
