Valley Teen Ranch is a private, nonprofit residential group established in 1987 that accommodates 32 at-risk boys ages 9-17 who have been abused or deemed delinquent. The ranch provides a safe environment for these boys to address emotional, social, mental, and spiritual challenges through counseling, education, vocational training, and outdoor activities like a ropes course. The goal is to help the boys improve their lives over their typical 12-15 month stay.

2. .Valley teen ranch was established in 1987 as
a private, non profit residential group. This
ranch accommodates 32 at- risk boys, ages 9-
17, placed by the court because they have
been abused or judged to be delinquent .
. Valley teen ranch is on 80 acres in the san
Joaquin valley of the central California.
. Valley teen ranch is a group home for a risk
boys troubled boys that have been removed
from inner- city influences.

3.  Valley teen ranch is working
to provide the opportunity
for these boys to deal with
their emotional, social,
mental and spiritual
challenges in a safe and
healthy environment. The
boys are placed with us from
County Probation
Departments throughout the
State, via a court order by the
Juvenile Judge. They have
committed offenses such as
Assault and Battery, Grand
Theft Auto, Breaking and
Entering, Truancy from
School, and Drug and
Alcohol abuse.

4.  They typically stay with us for 12-15 months.
During that time they attend an on-site
Community Day School operated in partnership
with Golden Valley Unified School District. They
participate in daily chores, individual and group
counseling, and receive two weekly substance
abuse treatment groups. They are taught by
example to be respectful, polite, responsible,
reliable and to tell the truth. They also assist with
outdoor chores such as feeding the animals,
irrigating the pastures, cleaning the swimming
pool and grounds maintenance.

6. The Priorities of Valley
Teen Ranch
Most of the boys at valley teen
ranch fall well below academic
grade-level standards. Many do not
have such life skills as being able to
tell time, use a ruler, or read at a
second grade level. These are some
of the reason that education is
mandatory during their stay.
 The boys of valley teen ranch
receive 24 hours supervision
and weekly individual and
group therapy. The mental
health of the residents is
closely monitored with
individualized testing,
evaluation, diagnosis,
medication and assessment
sessions.

7.  To help with some of the challenges
the boys are faced with they have a
ropes course. The ropes course is an
outdoor adventure program that
offers groups and individuals the
opportunity to participate in
activities involving mental and
physical challenge, and emotional
risk-taking. It is designed to create
an atmosphere where growth can
take place through working together
as a team The ropes course includes
experiential learning in the areas of
trust, communication, teamwork,
risk taking and problem solving.
Low Ropes activities consist of a
series of initiatives designed to build
problem solving skills. Teams are
required to work together to
overcome the obstacles presented to
them.
