Spring Activities at
St. Louis with
Bright Start Academy
We parents lead busy lives. By the time we finish
work and pick up our children, it’s time to get
home, get dinner on the table, and get ready for
bed! It seems like you rarely get time to slow down
and enjoy the family that you’ve built. That’s why
on the weekends, it’s important to carve out some
time for some fun with your family. There are lots
of spring activities in St. Louis that you can enjoy
with your little ones, many of which are free! So
this weekend, as they weather warms up and the sun
starts shining down on us, take some time to enjoy
all of the fun things that the big city nearby has to
offer!
St. Louis ZOO
With over 19,000 wild animals to see, the St. Louis Zoo
is a new experience every single time! Whether you’re
trekking through River’s Edge to find the newest baby
elephant, Priya, or you’re exploring the Red Rocks in
search of the purple-tongued giraffes.
Your family is sure to love all that one of the nation’s
top zoos has to offer. And considering school children
donated their pennies to purchase the zoo’s first
elephant, Miss Jim, in 1916, it’s the perfect place for
your children to marvel at the animals, and at the
history throughout the zoo.
The magic house
For creative, hands-on
learning, it’s tough to beat
the Magic House in
Kirkwood. With over
55,000 square feet full of
activities specifically
designed for babies,
toddlers, and preschoolers,
your child can investigate
and explore everything
from static electricity to
musical instruments to an
entire village created just
for them!
And with an area designated
just for babies, you can have
fun with your littlest ones,
without the fear that they’ll
get run over by excited older
kids. Throughout the year,
they host special events such
as Sid the Science Kid: The
Super-Duper Exhibit going on
through April 30, 2014.
You’ll find yourself climbing,
crawling, and learning right
along with your child!
St. Louis Science center
Located in beautiful Forest
Park, the Science Center has
fun things to see and do for
all age groups! From the
inticate marble maze above
the ticket counter to the
animatronic T-Rex, your
little one will be captivated
by all there is to see and do!
The Discovery Room is designed for toddlers and
preschool age children, with activities and events set
up just for them! And don’t forget the outside
area by the Planetarium with even more things to
explore and play…and even more dinosaurs to see!
St. Louis Botanical gardens
When it comes to spring activities in St. Louis involving
young children, the Botanical Gardens might not
immediately come to mind, but it should! With
different gardens and pathways to explore, a maze to
navigate, herbs to smell, and fountains galore there is so
much for children to see and do.
The Doris A. Schnuck Children’s Garden opens up
on March 29th, giving children even more to do!
There’s a limestone cave to explore, a steamboat to
board, a tree-house to climb around, and a prairie
village to experience. The St. Louis Botanical
Gardens is hands-on fun for the entire family!
Faust Park and the St. Louis
Carousel
Located in Chesterfield, Faust Park is home to both the
Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House and the St. Louis
Carousel. Both exhibits are kid-friendly fun! Then step
into the Butterfly House and watch as the beautiful
butterflies circle around you, maybe even landing on
you or your child!
When you’re done, stroll
on over to the St. Louis
Carousel where your child
can take a ride on an
original carousel from
Forest Park in the 1920′s.
It’s a great place to have a
variety of experiences all
in one trip! Take a walk
through the museum
and talk with your child
about the caterpillars and
cocoons featured
throughout.
There are so many fun spring activities in St.
Louis! And when you add in annual events like
Queeny Park’s Spring Art Fair and special events
such as Cakeway to the West there’s always
something exciting to do! It’s hard to carve out
special trips with your little one, and sometimes it
feels like those tidbits of free time get filled up so
quickly with responsibilities, but those fun times
make memories that last a lifetime. So next time
you have a free day, look at all the fun you and
your child can have exploring the city!
