Websites: most commercial, government and educational
establishments have them. They let you: buy or sell
products, research, download info, play games, chat.

Audience and Purpose:

- an informational site
- a promotional site
- an educational site
- a business
- a portal site (connects to other sites)
Identify the site’s domain: the URL
(Uniform Resource Locator)
Here are some common domain names to know:

.com commercial, for-profit company
.edu post-secondary educational institution
.org non-profit institute
.gov government agency
.net Internet-related network
.ca Canada
.uk United Kingdom
.jp Japan
Form and Content: look through the site
A website is made up of a group of web pages that are
linked to each other. The main page or homepage
connects you to all the other pages.

It should be simple to find your way around and access
the info that you need. (good vs bad website design)
- What are the navigation tools?

- Can you always reach the homepage?

- Are there common colours or other elements on every
page that makes it clear that you are still on the same
website?

- Is there contact info?
How can you tell if the website is reliable?

1.look for a date, to tell you that is was updated
recently.

2. If it has F.A.Q. , it shows that the web designer has
thought about what viewers care about.

3. look at the other links on the site, are they reliable?

4. Evaluate the information on the site, does it seem
authoritative, is it supported by research and evidence
and are the sources listed?
5. Is the information presented professionally? Are there
spelling or grammar mistakes?

6. Do the graphics and animation load quickly? (well designed)

7. Is it well designed and attractive? This shows how much time,
thought and care went into planning it. Better quality sites care
about these things, less reliable sites do not care about design.

8. Do they protect your information: security lock appears in the
top bar. Good sites have their own privacy policy.
