Delightful, Delicious, Disgusting
Carolyn Korsmeyer
An examination of food and how we perceive it, the separation between sacrifice and a meal never spread thinner
than now. A formal examination of a stance on food dealing with ideals behind the mortality of our food, highlighting examples of haute cuisine and paralleling them with
eating to survive. And a wonderful section on President
Francois Mitterand and his overindulgent meal for 30 of
Ortolan (small game bird, now the French national bird) a
now sinful (banned in France) delicacy that is normally
eaten with a cloth hanging over ones head, both to save
the aroma and experience as well as hide the act from
god.

COMFORT FOOD HAS A DARKER SIDE:
A GLUTTONY OF SIN
Maureen Hayden
From poets to Christians and Buddhists included Maureen
evaluates her own personal views on gluttony and compares them to some of the greatest expressions of this
overly delectable sin. Featuring comments from Edmund
Spencer to Orson Wells and snippets from multiple others
she argues for the de-sinification of gluttony, a virtual
rejoice in indulgence of one self with food.

"Life is complicated and fraught with compromises, unmet
desires and nettling disappointments. We cannot make
other people do right. Friends, neighbors, spouse, children all may resist our will, but, darn it, that chocolate
cream pie is going to know who's boss."

Gluttony

How Fat Went Out Of Fashion
Gluttony and its ideal, ow it affects
every modern day person, an
insight at how this came to be.
Somewhat of a religious tone yet
with a 4th chapter “Great Moments
in Gluttony” in which she goes over
some of the most exaggerated
recounts Of personal debaucher
with food throughout history, and not a single one will
leave you with anything more than desire to eat.
A reaction to the cultural change of the desirability of girth,
highlighting some of the greatest gluttons of all time: Maximinus the Thracian, Clodius Albinus and even Charlemagne. And a socioeconomic explanation of how the
increase in availability of food has expanded the girth of
middle and lower classes, causing the higher classes to
desire the exact oposite. Distinction is a desire the rich
tend to cater to.

“I cannot believe that there exists a single coherent human

or twice he has stuffed himself to the bursting point, on

"In a little over 100 years, we've discarded the standards
of Rubens and Renoir, and substituted those of Barbie

classed as fat-fetishist weirdos.”

Benny Hill: a darker side, his world of gluttony, junkfood and brothels.
Mark Lewisohn
A peer into the life of time old comedian Benny Hill, and
his adventurous ramps as a thieving comic, interlaced with
an ever darkening glutton and sex addict while of-screen
and their eventual lead in his demise. This excerpt from
Lewisohns book the life of Benny Hill comes with detailed
description of how the comics peculiarities especially his
inability to control himself with food are truly highlighted. A
man who would finish the tables drinks if left unattended
and with a particular joy for chinese food as everything
was served on individual dishes, this man wasted not a
single scrap of food.
Favorite Quote:
“He walked fast - 'shooting along like a loony', according
to one of his TV assistants - but the calorific benefits were
debatable, since he was liable to congratulate himself on
finishing the journey by buying a handful of Mars bars.”
The Secret Fat of the Land
Catherine Jones
In a modern day UK they are faced by a 10 million man
strong “drain” on the healthcare system as obesity
becomes more and more of a problem, and in a land
divided by avid gym goers and hyper calorie counters
passing judgment on the rest she has somewhat of a witty
call to action asking to out those hiding behind a healthy
facade in what she calls outing closet fatties who pass
judgment on the larger folk. Referring largely to a fat suit
experiment she conducted in which even the slightly out
of shape thought it was ok to openly mock.
Favorite Quote:
"'The worst were couples in their 20s and 30s, who
openly laughed,' she said. 'They were strutting about in
their neat little clothes, waltzing around arm in arm, with
him thinking, 'Look at my lovely bird on my arm' and her, a
little scarf tied round her neck and tight jeans, thinking,
'I've only got him because I'm slim and attractive'.'”

FRANÇOIS AND AYMERIC PASQUIER
Beginning humbly in 1988, what started as
a simple gathering of friends has converted
itself into popular citywide events that
number in the thousands. Two this year
alone in Paris, another in Montreal (since
2009) and for the first time one in New York
(held at Bryant park).
These pop up events spearheaded by the
Pasquiers and volunteers have people
converge at a variety of locations with three
simple things a table, a picnic, and a white
dress code, the rest is out of their hands as
the location is not revealed to the last
moment when all of the groups converge
at once and set up a meal for thousands in
under 30 minutes.

Epic Meal Time
A Night of Gluttony
Alan Fierer
An annual celebration that Alan passes
with some of his best friends, the tuesday
before thanksgiving becomes a rant
around their city, visiting all of they favorite
bars and restaurants, snacking drinking
and all out gorging, and how it has brought
him some of his happiest times. Allways
ending with plenty of water and a 3 mile
run the next morning to bring them back to
solid ground.
Sadly not the best designed or perhaps
even the most overly thought out operations this group of benevolent gluttoniers
take things to a new extreme gorging
themselves at any means possible. I do
admire what they can do with a bacon
weave though.

THE GLUTTON
Development of an animated

devouring everything in excess.
SECRET SECRETS:
Using a simple very small
external speaker create a
temporary installation using
recordings of peoples personal narratives. Ideally
people will unknowingly be
taking part in this experiment,
somewhat of a setup imagined around the space in
front of 13th st building, using
the protruded edge that
people commonly sit on, to
my advantage, hiding the
apparatus under the overhang and playing the files
whilst maintaining a unobtrusive distance.
POST NO BILLS:
Post no bills, a comedic
reaction to the phrasing of
this command that we see on
an everyday basis. Post no
bills is painted on any temporary surface used in most
construction work is there so
these surfaces remain free of
common clutter that we tend
to attach to every available
surface as our free form of
advertising. The response will
the the random posting of
questions next to these signs
(example: what about bob?)
playing with phrasing while
aiming at a comedic relieve,
this will be a very short interaction and acknowledgement
is the goal, not communication.
FOOD EXPRESSIONS :
Write about what i am going to
eat, compare how i see it before
tasting it, what stands out to
me, what will i think is the best
part. And go over the same
process after eating (have 3
other people do this) describe in
the best detail what was the
most enjoyable, were my eyes
deceiving or was I (or anyone)
spot on?

ACCESSIBILITY OF
INFORMATION
Accessibility of information,
when something is compiled is
it used more. Make a page
where all the blogs are visible,
or at least accessible see if this
increases communication
between students, or if it even
just increases awareness of
each others blogs.
BEETLUSION
I fool your eyes but not your
taste buds. Visually manipulate
an ingredient until it looks like a
delectable dish, in this case
beet! And measure the reaction
when those who eat it find that
the flavor doesn't really live up
to expectations.
FOOD JOURNEY:
Experience a day entirely
planned around meals, varying
from 3 main courses to snacks,
but changing the usual dynamic
of my life instead of the food
complementing the activity, the
food becomes the activity.
