2. Dolphins-Amazing creatures
• They are found in different parts of the world.
• They use several techniques of feeding and
survival.
• Usually, they eat fishes and squids by some
mutually dependent efforts.
• They generally apply group efforts to find and
catch their prey.
3. Techniques used to find their food
• For locating their prey they apply the
technique of echolocation.
• Through this technique, they send sonic sound
waves through water.
• When these sounds hit any object they
bounce back to the dolphins. Thus, they easily
identify the location of the object.
4. How they catch their prey?
• After finding their food, dolphins use two
common hunting techniques to feed on their
prey.
• These techniques are based on their mutual
cooperation, namely
herding
corralling
5. Herding- Trap for fishes
• In this technique , a group of dolphins catch their
prey by packing them closely.
• They surround a school of fish from all directions
and don’t allow them to leave and sneak.
• At a particular time, only one or two dolphins
feed on their prey while others hold the pack
tightly and don’t allow the fishes to flee.
6. Corralling-catching technique
• The next hunting technique used by dolphins is
corralling.
• In this technique, a group of dolphins catch their
prey by forcing them to run towards shallow
ends.
• Thus, after sometime the prey gets trapped
between the shores and the dolphins feed on
them very easily.
