Le gouvernement du Québec a récemment mis en œuvre le Plan Nord, lequel s’échelonnera sur une période de 25 ans. Ce projet majeur de développement durable intégrera le développement énergétique, minier, forestier, bioalimentaire, touristique et du transport, la mise en valeur de la faune ainsi que la protection de l’environnement et la conservation de la biodiversité. Actuellement, la connaissance géographique au nord du 49e parallèle est soit vétuste ou mal adaptée aux besoins de ces grands défis gouvernementaux. Pour améliorer les connaissances des milieux nordiques, trois objectifs ont été fixés, soit de fournir des produits de connaissances géographiques pour la gestion des communautés nordiques et des infrastructures, réaliser des produits cartographiques pour supporter la gestion des ressources naturelles, l’aménagement et la gestion des milieux nordiques et rendre disponibles aux clientèles et aux partenaires du Plan Nord les données et les produits de connaissances par une diffusion en ligne. La Direction générale adjointe de l’information géographique (DGAIG) du ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune a débuté, en 2010-2011, l’acquisition de différents types de données pour rencontrer ces objectifs. Par ailleurs, considérant que la connaissance constitue un défi financier et tactique, un Comité interministériel de coordination des projets de connaissances du Plan Nord a été mis sur pied afin de mieux planifier les interventions sur le territoire, d’encourager le financement et la réalisation des projets en partenariat, d’éviter la redondance et d’assurer la cohérence et l’intégration des informations produites et diffusées pour le Plan Nord. La présentation portera, d’une part, sur les produits de connaissances géographiques réalisés par la DGAIG en 2010-2011 dans le cadre du Plan Nord et, d’autre part, elle dressera un portrait des principaux projets de connaissances prévus et à venir au gouvernement du Québec.

Dans le cadre de la gestion de son rôle d'évaluation, la Ville de Trois-Rivières utilise la géomatique afin d'automatiser un certain nombre de processus. Dans le passé, l'entrée des données dans le rôle d'évaluation s'effectuait en passant directement par les tables descriptives du logiciel expert (PG Mega Eval). La cartographie était ensuite mise à jour. Dorénavant le point d'entrée pour l'ajout ou la modification des données du rôle d'évaluation se situe au niveau du Système d'Information Géographique du Service. De cette façon, nous pouvons aller puiser un maximum d'informations spatiales par rapport à la propriété (Servitudes, Zonage municipal, Pentes fortes, etc...). Un certain nombre d'informations sont donc emmagasinées à partir de la carte et sont envoyées vers les tables descriptives du logiciel expert PG Mega Eval.
