PILLOW CASTLE WEEKLY
1. Back to the Drawing Board post SIGGRAPH.
How many times have we been back to the drawing board, exactly? A
lot. Why do we have any reason to believe it will be any different this
time? We don't. Except...
2. Now we all know that the machine serves the puzzle.
No one cares if it's pretty or functional (maybe that means we did a
good job of polish...) what the masses want is PUZZLES. CONTENT.
MIND BLOWINGS PER SECOND. Hence, new team lingo floating the
office "Yeah but how many MBPS?" "Good Question. Maybe like 4?" "Is
4 MBPS worth it? Do any of us have any idea what we're talking about
right now?" "I think it works like horsepower."
3. Our project is back at the ETC for the last time. Our last
rodeo as Seniors. Introducing: SUPER PILLOW CASTLE
We've moved into our new office space and it's uh... cozy. Pictures
forthcoming, once we scrub out all of the tears and shame that have
come from projects previous. Also, we want to hang a banner or
something. To tie the room together.
4. NEW FACES AND BRAINS
This semester, the team is lucky to count a few very smart people among
those who will be helping us part time as we develop the game. Some of
the contributors are a surprise. Some are famous. Some are not. But
what is fame, anyway? And what does it mean that we, as a culture,
value fame is such a way as to add intrinsic worth to someone just
because they get the mad retweets? More on this when we have enough
retweets.
5. INDIECADE, PILLOW CASTLE, AND OUR FUTURE
2. So... Indiecade. Hasn't been announced yet. We here at Pillow Castle can
see the length of our runway shrinking day by day, and there's a little
kind of, ramp type thing with big glowing arrows that might help us
take off before that runway runs out. That little ramp type thing is
Indiecade, and it's the last big event for a game like ours before we have
to go begging to money. It's going to be our mission to document this
process, because it sucks, and it's something a lot of independent game
makers are staring down the barrel of. Wish us luck. Or a job offer when
we crash land.
6. NSF iCORPS PROGRAM WHAT?
The National Science Foundation has extended an offer to Pillow Castle
to join their national i CORPS program starting this fall. We'll become a
member of the NSF's National Innovation Network, and we will be
working with the program to "accelerate" our "startup" into
"entrepreneurial innovation." BUZZWORDS. You're asking
yourself, "How do you guys fit in with the National Science
Foundation?" Our Answer? SCIENCE KNOWS KNOW BOUNDS.
7. ESA ROUNDTABLE IN PITTSBURGH
Finally, in cool things Pillow Castle is a part of all of a sudden: we've
been asked to attend the Entertainment Software Association's
Roundtable Discussion on "ways to grow the video game industry in
Pennsylvania" hosted at ThrillMill in Pittsburgh, PA. Our number one
suggestion? GIVE PILLOW CASTLE A LOT OF MONEY AND WE'LL
TURN IT INTO JOBS. We're certainly responsible. Look at our suit and
tie.
NEXT WEEK:
WE TACKLE MAKING SOME DECISIONS BY DECLARING A CORE
VISION MOVING FORWARD. This shit always works out terribly.
Make sure you tune into your TV sets to watch how a team of misfits
tries to cram creativity into a production schedule. Check your local
listings.
3. DJ MACULATE cut us a new summer promo video before heading to
SIGGRAPH to show off the game at the Media Indie Exchange.
MEDIA INDIE EXCHANGE '14
Thanks to all the great folks behind the Media Indie Exchange for giving
us an opportunity to hang out and show the game at SIGGRAPH in
Vancouver, Canada.
There's some people in this photograph. Some very cool people. Mac is
the one with the idiotic grin on his face.
4. A MEMBER
OF THE GANG
Every week, Pillow Castle
will be highlighting one of
the awesome folks behind
making the Museum a
reality. Could be a
founding member of the
team, could be our
favorite delivery driver.
Whoever it is, they make
our games possible.
Wayne, right before
going on stage at the
Frank Sinatra
Imitators for Cancer
gala event.
Wayne Chang
Wayne is a former CMU
Computer Science major
turned Microsoft Games

He met the folks at Pillow
Castle while attending
Building Virtual Worlds.
Wayne is a part time
puzzle experimentalist for
Pillow Castle, and is
helping to blow minds on
