In mid-2017, Deloitte released an Annual Review
of Football Finance report that showed that the
revenue of the 92 clubs across England’s top four
divisions reached £4.4 billion, with the 20 Premier
League clubs accounting for £3.6 billion.
Slightly less than a third of that revenue came
from the Football League’s 16 clubs and Premier
League teams with bases in the Greater London
area. Arsenal raked in £350 million in revenue, with
other London clubs including Chelsea (£335 million),
Tottenham (£209 million) and West Ham United
(£144 million) also prominent on the money list.
This points to an increase in the financial muscle
of the clubs based in the capital, which is a good
sign for the local economy. The clubs based there
also look set for a sustainable future, with many of
them either having or looking to have new stadiums
and continued accomplishments on the pitch.
Additionally, the fact that London is a global city
helps in attracting some of the best talent to play
and live in the capital.
