Archimedes was a Greek mathematician and inventor from Syracuse, Sicily who lived during the 3rd century BC. He made influential discoveries in geometry and developed mechanical devices, including the Archimedes' screw and the compound pulley. Many of his inventions were related to his work with King Hiero II of Syracuse and had applications in warfare, agriculture, and everyday life that are still used today.
