The hatchback segment is one of the fastest growing in India and the options in this are
incredible. Tata Motors has now unveiled its new hatchback in the sub four-meter car segment in
February at the Indian Auto Expo 2014. The new Tata Bolt is expected to roll out on Indian
roads by July 2014 after some fine ornamental changes.
As far as looks go, the Bolt looks much similar to the Indica. In all respects, the Bolt is
essentially an upgraded version of the aging Indica Vista. It has stylish edges, curvy body and an
attractive forward swooping front fascia with elongated headlamps. The new Tata signature grille
flows into the vibrant headlamps. Two prominent lines run along the length of the car. The
number plate is positioned above the tailgate instead of the bumper and in its place is a rear fog
lamp.
The fresh black and white interiors are also quite spacious and have enough space for five adults.
The new dashboard is loaded with infotainment features. The 3-spoke steering wheel, gear knob,
on door release handles and the detailed air vents all add to the aesthetic appeal of this new car.
The plastics used are all of fine quality.
Additional features include EPAS (Electronic Power Assisted System) with ‘Active Return’
function, speed sensitive power steering, Anti lock braking system, Cornering Stability feature
and dual path suspension system. It also has a 5 inch touch screen with audio and video
playback, advanced Bluetooth technology, an SD card reader, USB and aux-in, a trip computer,
power windows, power mirrors, parking sensor, climate control and in-built HVAC controls.
Tata Bolt will be coming in two engine options - the newly launched 1.2-
liter REVOTRON petrol unit and Fiat’s 1.3-liter Multijet diesel power train. The petrol unit is
capable of delivering a peak power output of 85 PS along with a maximum torque of 140 Nm,
2. while the VGT diesel version will churn out a maximum power of 90 PS. Both the engines will
be powered with a five-speed manual transmission gearbox.
Tata Bolt will be priced in the range of Rs. 5 to Rs. 7 lakh. It will have four petrol and three
diesel variants. With the likes of the Suzuki Swift, Swift Dzire, Chevrolet Sail, VW Polo,
Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Amaze and the newly launched Hyundai Xcent, Tata is expecting to
win over the potential car buyers with this all-new car. Tata Bolt will be an excellent value for
money offer with its novelty in terms of design, drivability and connectivity. Bolt should
probably be a great seller for Tata Motors.
