2. The music in the action movies I watched was fast
paced and tended to start quiet and gets louder as it
goes on, an example of this can be listened to here:

This sort of music is used to establish the genre and to
put us on the edge of our seat from the very beginning,
sometimes even the title sequence of the movie.
It establishes genre by being fast paced and loud,
these are the kinds of things we expect an action
movie to be, so it helps us build the idea of what the
movie will be like right from the very beginning.
3. Sound is usually the diagetic sound from
the background of the shot, for example in
Die Hard 2 it is based in an airport and you
can hear people speaking over the
intercom system and the movement of
suitcases in the background. Although
when fight scenes occur, as they often do
in action movies, then it tends to be non-
diagetic .
4. Most of the characters in the movies I watched tended to be males,
who were well built and strong. Examples of these are Bruce Willis
(Die Hard 2) and Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible). I feel like these
sorts of characters try to appeal to what every man wants to be like,
every guy wants to rescue the girl at the end of a bond movie and I
think that’s what appeals to the men about the action genre, also the
men appeal to the women as they may feel like the women that he is
rescuing.
In Tomb Raider the main character was a women, although she is
risking her life in dangerous tombs as her day job, the directors of
this movie still feel it necessary to dress her in tight leather shorts
and a top that pushes up her breasts. This shows us once again that
this genre is often trying to appeal to males more than females and
by dressing the character this way is the best way too. This is know
as the male gaze.
5. All of the movies I watched established a main
character pretty early on, whether this is through
them talking to someone, for example in Die Hard
2, or being face down washed up on a beach,
Inception. Although from past experience with this
genre of movies I know that most of the time that
character development doesn’t really matter for the
main storyline
A lot of the time in this genre of movies there is a
very attractive female role, that usually needs
saving in some way, this once again shows us that
these movies are based predominately at males.
6. Inall of the movies I watched match on
action and jump cuts were used to keep
the flow of the movie going nicely without
to many transitions.
Alsoat the beginning of scenes there
tends to be a long shot that is used to
establish the time and place of each
scene.
