This document tells the story of Ashley and Alex, a young married couple with three children who were homeless and living in a tent despite both having jobs. Their situation highlights a forgotten segment of the homeless population who work but cannot afford housing. Through assistance from a non-profit organization, the couple was able to secure better paying work and reduce debt. They eventually moved into stable housing provided by the non-profit, putting their family on a path to self-sufficiency. The document encourages donations to help other families in similar situations break the cycle of generational poverty.

1. Waking up in a tent on a camping trip with
your family, fishing, and start gazing at
night…breakfast made over an open fire
and S’mores….
Who doesn’t love that!!!

2. But when you are homeless and sleeping in a tent
outside hot laying on the hard damp ground and go to
work every day, is a different story and it definitely
doesn’t paint the same picture.

3. This was Ashley and Alex’s story.
Young married couple with 3
children. Employed…but homeless,
there was not enough funds to be
able to obtain safe affordable
housing for their family. This is a
segment of homeless population
that is often forgotten…or we don’t
even know they exist.

4. They have blossomed into
responsible parents with a
plan for the future!
Alex now has secured a
better paying job, they
attended the Financial Peace
University class, using this
tool they are investing in a
401K and reduced their
debt…
The young couple was
connected with the NPF
through Head Start in Port
Charlotte and in November
2014, they move to one of
our triplexes…they were
forever thankful…

5. November 2015 will be a year since Alex and Ashley started the program.
With case management and a plan this family is now on a path to a
sustainable, self -sufficient future.
