3. INTRODUCTION-ESE
The engineering services meet the technical and managerial needs of
the Government of India.
The selectees are called technocrats ,initially officers perform technical
functions but upon attaining few years of seniority they perform managerial
functions .
The selectees are appointed by the union government on the
recommendations made by the Union Public Service Commission .
IES officers carry high respect and stature in society and are able to manage
activities in diverse areas
All appointments to the Group A services in IES/ESE are made by the President
of India

7. STAR POINTS ONE MUST KNOW
• Total candidates appearing in ESE is approximately 2 lakhs
• For appearing in exam ,all you need is to obtain a degree certificate
irrespective of percentage in engineering.
• A candidate in one discipline is allowed to appear in any other
discipline as well
For Example:
>>A person with electronic degree can appear in electrical/ civil/
mechanical.
>>Candidates with computer science/IT degree can also appear in
any of the above disciplines

BASIC: 21,000 INR
DEARNESS ALLOWANCE(DA): 100% OF BASIC (is revised after every 6 months)
HRA : 10% / 20% / 30% OF BASIC , (depends upon the city)
Transport allowance : Rs800 + DA on Rs 800
OR Rs1600 + DA on Rs 1600
OR Rs3200 + DA on Rs 3200(depends upon the city)
FOR EXAMPLE (Considering annual hike In gross salary per year 10% ):

17. HOW TO IMPROVE ENGLISH
• Refer wren and martin book for English language.
• Read “HINDU” newspaper thoroughly on a daily
basis. Keep a dictionary along with you and note
down meanings of difficult words in a separate
notebook. This will improve your comprehension skill
and vocabulary .
• Newspaper reading will improve your current affairs
which is very important from exam point of view as
well as personality development.
