2. • With both of my scripts, I have constructed them in a manner which is most
suited to my target audience of teens aged 14- 19 in an effective and interesting
way. To be more specific with the scripts, my preliminary script begins with a
much more informal welcoming in which continues throughout the remainder of
the script, compared to the main task which has a much more formal approach for
the news bulletin. Another point with my main task script for the news bulletin is
that I have put much more thought into it than I did with the preliminary task, as
evident by the inclusion of G. Burton’s news values. I used these news values due
to me following the inverted triangle which consists of the news values, as well
as the 5 W’s at the top of the triangle. I was sure to follow the inverted triangle in
order to cover all aspects of my news stories and thus relaying all the important
details to my target listeners. I also ensured that I included facts which were clear,
concise and correct in order to convey the information to the audience in the best
way possible. These are areas which I had not considered for my preliminary task
and therefore demonstrates the progression and knowledge I had developed from
the preliminary task. In order to comply with one of the news values which I was
following, all of the vox-pops which I included within the main task were
conducted with the people of Oldham. Another contrast with the main and prelim
scripts lies at the end of each of the scripts. With our preliminary script I did not
include an outro in order to inform the listeners that the interview had come to an
end and that they would be back shortly, however, with my main script, I
included an outro to inform the listeners that the news update was complete, and
that it would be back in less than an hour. I made the decision to include this as I
researched into Oldham Community Radio’s news bulletins and this is something
which they do after their news bulletin.
Pointsof Comparison
3. • From my Prelim to Main task, I have learnt many new techniques in
which I have demonstrated to a higher degree in my main task. For
my preliminary task, it was important to take into consideration the
mode of address. The target audience for the preliminary task was the
school and college strand which consists of teens between the ages of
14 – 19, therefore the interview with the comedian had to be
appropriate for this audience. With this age range, the preferable
mode of address is to conduct an informal, yet interesting and
informative interview. I decided that this was the best mode of
address due to myself falling within this range and this is what
appeals to me, but also as I had conducted research prior to
conducting the interview in which I listened to and analysed two
other radio broadcasts. This can be seen on my preliminary blog
where I have produced a comparison between a broadcasted
interview with Carol Anne Duffy and a contrasting interview with
Peter Kay. The Peter Kay interview came across much more
informally and therefore I decided that this was the direction I
wanted to take when conducting the script for the task and thus the
mode of address which I was to take as it is most appropriate for my
target audience.

4. • To compare the mode of address which I had taken with the
preliminary task with that which I had taken with the main, I have
taken a much more formal approach than I have with the prelim. I
had decided to take this approach with the news bulletin as I
discovered when conducting research that this is the most common
approach which is used in news broadcasting. This approach is
commonly used as it allows the presenter to portray the seriousness
of a situation or event to its listeners. I discovered this by listening to
news bulletins which are produced by Sky News and broadcasted on
Oldham Community Radio, as seen on my blog where I have
conducted research into this. By taking the formal mode of address,
the listener is able to easily follow the story and take in all of the
information which they need to know. When analysing the bulletin
from Sky News, I found it to be clear and informative due to its
formal nature. I was able to convey this with my own news bulletin
as I used a mode of address and language which was appropriate and
understandable to the audience I was aiming at.
