2. Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS) commissioned
research firm Vanson Bourne to interview 700 IT decision
makers at mid-sized to large companies in the U.S., U.K.,
France, Sweden, and Ireland between September and
November 2015 about their experience with Hybrid IT.
The findings from the survey show that use of Hybrid IT is
widespread, though some companies are seeing more
benefit from it than others.
Here are the 7 secrets to Hybrid IT, according to the
Sungard AS survey.
3. 1. Hybrid IT is absolutely necessary in
today’s business world.
Around three quarters of the respondents (73
percent) stated that their use of Hybrid IT was
essential to remaining competitive.
4. 2. Hybrid IT might save you a lot
of money, but it might not.
While 38 percent of respondents say that Hybrid IT
has reduced IT costs, 39 percent say it has increased
them.
Those who saw savings saved an average of $300,000
a year.
5. 3. Hybrid IT makes integration
easier.
Over three in five respondents (63 percent) have
seen improvement in integration since moving to a
Hybrid IT environment.
Which is a good thing, since 72 percent of
respondents said “interoperability between the
platforms” was a top reason for using Hybrid IT.
6. 4. Hybrid IT makes things more
complex.
While the companies surveyed overall saw more
positive impact from Hybrid IT than negative, the top
problem reported was increased complexity (28
percent).
Seven in ten agree that their IT infrastructure is more
complex now than in the past, and 62 percent feel
that Hybrid IT has made running their IT
infrastructure more complex.
7. Things are so complex that …
… over a third (34 percent) admit they no longer fully
understand everything about their organization’s IT
environment.
8. 5. Hybrid IT requires new skills,
and maybe new people.
89 percent of respondents feel that their team is
lacking at least one skill for managing Hybrid IT.
9. Security skills were the top deficit …
37 percent felt their staff lacked the security skills
needed, though managing IT systems across
departments (28 percent) and integration and
maintenance of both public and private cloud (27
percent each) were also prominent.
10. 6. Hybrid IT is worth it.
67 percent of respondents agreed that the cost and
complexity of Hybrid IT were worth it in the long run.
Why?
94 percent of respondents had seen a positive business
impact.
The top benefits reported were increased business agility
(46 percent) and improved customer service (41 percent).
11. 7. Hybrid IT works better with a
partner.
Over half (53 percent) needed a third party partner
to help run their Hybrid IT environment.
An even higher number (67 percent) felt that the
proper support from a partner was key to success in
managing their Hybrid IT environment.
