Smyth Digital-88 is an integrated system that combines Folding, Inserting and Thread Sewing in one automated solution at extraordinary price. This system is composed of an automatic Folding and Inserting station connected in line with the new F3088 thread book sewer. The whole production process is managed by JUST ONE OPERATOR, and it sharply reduces production costs to get high quality sewn books. Versatility is Digital-88 main feature: besides the possibility to run all operations in line, the F3088 book sewer can also be used as a stand alone machine with semi-automatic Side and Front feeding. The advantage lies in the possibility to handle also oversized signatures up to 520 x 550 mm. This feature is particularly appreciated in the production of record and art books, photobooks and all high end publications.

2. Smyth F3088 hand-fed book sewer is a FRONT and SIDE FEEDING book sewer specifically designed for short and medium
run production. It is suitable for the "Book on Demand" and Oversized Books since it handles extremely large signatures up to
520 x 550 mm (front feeding) and 520 x 320 mm (side feeding).
Positioned before the folding unit, the “Inserter”
enables combined collating of flat sheets. Then, the
sheets are aligned on both sides and transported to
the cross knife unit.
L’alimentatore dei fogli raccolti, “Inserter”, è posi-
zionato prima della stazione di piegatura. I fogli,
caricati manualmente, sono allineati da entrambi i
lati e trasportati al gruppo coltello incrociato.
La Smyth F3088 è la cucitrice ad alimentazione FRONTALE E LATERALE manuale progettata per le produzione di brevi e medie
tirature di libri cuciti. E’ la soluzione ideale per il “Book on Demand” e per la produzione di libri FUORI FORMATO grazie alla possi-
bilità di cucire segnature fino a 520 x 550 mm (alimentazione frontale) e 520 x 320 mm (alimentazione laterale).
Il modulo SMYTH mod. P è un sistema di ACCUMULO E PIEGA AUTO-
MATICO. Si compone di una stazione ad alimentazione automati-
ca/manuale dei fogli stesi e da un COLTELLO INCROCIATO che, me-
diante un movimento verticale dal basso verso l’alto, piega i fogli pre-
ventivamente soprapposti nella stazione di accumulo.
La segnatura piegata mediante il coltello viene trasferita all’interno di due
piastre contrapposte comandate pneumaticamente ed utilizzate per pres-
sare e ribadire ulteriormente la piega. Successivamente la segnatura viene
trasferita dalle stesse piastre sulla “sella fissa” della cucitrice a filo refe.

SMYTH mod. P is an AUTOMATIC INSERTING AND CROSS FOLDING
SYSTEM. It comes equipped with an AUTOMATIC or HAND FEEDING sta-
tion of flat sheets and a CROSS KNIFE to fold the inserted sheets by
means of its vertical movement from bottom to top. The inserted she-
ets are cross folded by means of the vertical movement of the knife
from bottom to top to prepare signatures to be sewn. The Indexing
system composed of two pneumatically driven plates, presses again the
signature spine before being transferred onto the “fix saddle”.

3. Smyth DIGITAL-88 is an automatic cross folding and sewing system. It is composed of the New SMTYH F3088 sewing
machine connected with the SMYTH Mod. P in the BASIC version (with the manual sheets feeding system) or with the PA
unit in the PLUS version (with the automatic sheets feeding system). It is specifically designed for small run production of
sewn books composed of 4 page inserted signatures.
