The electronic equipment & instruments industry is the sum of the electronic equipment manufacturers market, the electronic
manufacturing services market, and the technology distributors sector.

The electronic equipment manufacturers market is defined as the value of electronic equipment produced for applications in the
industrial, automotive, aerospace, medical, consumer, ITC, and other segments. All values are at manufacturer selling prices, not
retail or end-user prices. Values are for production by all types of manufacturer, including companies that carry out production
in-house, and those that contract it out to electronic manufacturing services (EMS) or similar service providers.

The electronic manufacturing services market consists of companies that manufacture electronic equipment mainly for OEMs
(Original Equipment Manufacturers). The market is valued on the basis of revenues received by the contract manufacturing
companies for such services. The market value does not include the Original Design Manufacturer s (ODM) segment. However, some
EMS companies also offer ODM services, and their market share may include ODM revenues. The regional segmentation is based on
the geographical site of the EMS company headquarters.

The technology distributors sector consists of the total revenues generated by the top 30 (by global revenue) distributors of
communications equipment, computers & peripherals, semiconductors, and any other electronic equipment and components to the
electronics market. The market is valued at wholesale prices. The geographical segmentation is on the basis of the regions where
company revenues were generated, not on the regions where the companies are headquartered.

All currency conversions are calculated using constant average annual 2009 exchange rates.

For the purposes of this report, the global market consists of Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific and rest of the World.
