1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge conventions of real media products?
2. • When designing my media product I took into consideration the use of conventions used in
real media products.
• When designing my front cover, I used a medium close up which was positioned in the
centre of the page , so that it is obvious that the feature article will be focused around this
person, this can be seen on most music magazines. I then designed my title to be large and
bold so that it captures attention instantly and placed it in the top left hand corner, which is
also where many real music magazines place their titles, such as NME and Q. I have used a
colour scheme of black, red and grey, which I chose from my questionnaire, most magazines
use a colour scheme on every issue so audiences can identify their magazine. As well as this I
have used conventions such as the use of straps and a barcode with the price on the cover,
there is also the use of a ‘WIN’ box which can sometimes be found on magazine covers.
• Other conventions I have used on my contents page is the use of the title being in the same
position as the front cover which is a common feature of music magazines. I then uploaded
images which would be from the articles that are featured inside and placed them on the
page with small amounts of writing to give the reader a taste of what they are about. I have
used a strap line saying ‘Inside this week’ which would be included on every issue of MLE.
3. My double page spread uses conventions of real media products by firstly having a
large, strong and eye catching original image of the artist featured, the image was taken
from the concert which the article reviews. The image has then been edited into a black
and white tone to fit the colour scheme, which is black and white and also pink. There
is then a large eye catching title, which is capitalised and bold so that it is the first thing
the reader see’s. The title is ‘Rih-forms’ which is a play on word with the name Rihanna
and the word Reforms, play on word type titles can be commonly found in music
magazines or any magazines to add interest to the title. I have used columns to spread
my article out, as all magazines and newspapers use columns. There is the use of drop
caps at the start of the article which is found in all articles (As seen below), which adds
a professional element to the article. Underneath the title is the stand first, which is a
small amount of text like a subheading which also gives the reader a hint to what the
article is focused on. To fit the purpose of the article, it focuses on one of Rihannas
concert and therefore includes information and statistics, this would be a convention of
writing a review in a music magazine.
4. Strap line advertising some of the articles inside

whole page to catch the eye.
