Program (over 250 contributors):
I am writing to share some exciting news with you!
The USAID-sponsored Pakistan Reconstruction Program, implemented from 2006-
2014, is the 2014 recipientof the CDM Smith Thomas Camp Award. Named for
CDMSmith’s founder, thisaward representsthe criticalintegration of service,
technical, and business excellence. We build and manage client relationshipsto
maximize our understanding of their needsand expectations, set the rightteam of
technicaltalent to craftand deliver the best solutions, and work together to
achieve strong business performance for continuedgrowth and profitability. The
ThomasCamp Award recognizesthe CDMSmith project—and projectteam—that
best achieves all three facets of excellence.
As you well know, this eight-year program focused on the design and construction
of schoolsand health care facilities in an area of NorthwestPakistan that was
damaged by the major earthquake in 2005. Under thisprogram,the team
collectively designed and built 61 earthquake-resistantschools, 16 healthcare
facilities, and 7 university improvements. The team also rehabilitated 40 flood-
damaged schools, which were added to the scope in 2011.
Beyond building new infrastructure, the team helped to build local engineering
capacity, engaging sixdesign firmsand 22 subcontractorsin the projectwork. The
team also directly involved local stakeholdersfrom 113 communitiesin project
implementation, as well as in numerousother initiatives—such as organizing the
donation of thousandsof library booksto the completed schools.
I wantto personally recognize you, a key member of the Pakistan Reconstruction
Program team, for your outstanding contribution to the success of this
project. The Pakistan Reconstruction Program wasan exceptionalprojectthat
improved the lives of so many in Pakistan, and which will have impactfor
generationsto come. It reflects the mission of CDMSmith: to improve quality of
life throughoutthe world.
