The Past Tense Song
“Haben”/”sein”, “haben”/”sein”,
they’re used for the past tense;
All I need to choose
Is which one to use
“Haben” take the most
“Sein” is what the movement takes
Plus the past participle
That is what the past tense makes

There are some exceptions
That is what they say
And the most important one
Is the verb “to stay”

“Ich bin”, “du bist”, “er ist”,
“Wir sind”, “ihr seid”, “sie sind” -
“Sein” means “to be”
And that is fine by me
…
“Ich habe”, “du hast”
“Er/sie/es hat”
“Haben” take “sie” and “wir”
That’s not difficult, my dear
…
The verbs which aren’t regular
They can be quite peculiar
They might not start with “g” and “e”
And not end in “t”!
…
“Haben” and “Sein” come second
This rule cannot be bent
And the past participle
Goes right to the end.
