Introduction to TOHO 9000
Over the past decade, TOHO 9000™ Australia has assisted many organisations to achieve
remarkable savings in the cost of operating their vehicle fleet and all motorised
equipment including compaction, excavation, mining, mowing, chipping and marine
equipment.
The product which has allowed these organisations to achieve the savings is TOHO 9000
the preferred oil fortifier.
These savings have resulted from a dramatic decrease in oil consumption, an observable
reduction in fuel consumption, considerably reduced downtime, extended productive life
and other significant benefits. This has allowed TOHO 9000 clients to streamline their
business operations by eliminating costs and unnecessary functions.
Another major advantage of TOHO 9000 is the contribution it will make to your
environmental strategy. Making TOHO 9000 a standard part of your fleet lubrication
program will materially cut oil consumption, lower fuel consumption and thereby
significantly reduce your carbon footprint. This may be an important benefit in a carbon
tax or ETS based environment. We will explain below how the product works and how we
can assist your organisation to take advantage of the range of benefits enjoyed by existing
TOHO 9000 clients.
Product Overview
TOHO 9000 is a revolutionary product which when added to regular lubrication oil extends
its useful life by a factor of at least twelve times for most vehicles (for full details see
Applications Page 9). Laboratory tests and field usage of TOHO 9000 has proven that oil life
is extended without degradation of the protective properties. The product will extend not
only the useful life of engine oil but also any oil based lubricant or hydraulic fluid used in
trucks, passenger vehicles, marine applications, earthmoving equipment or other plant.
History of TOHO 9000
TOHO 9000 was developed over a 15 year period by a team of Japanese scientists from the
University of Tokyo. TOHO 9000 was then tested and it’s qualities certified by the Austrian
based laboratory, AVL GmbH, in Vienna in 1997. JAL (Japan Airlines) have been using
TOHO 9000 for the past 17 years in the engines and hydraulic systems of their ground based
service vehicles. It was introduced to Australia in 1996 by Biblis Holdings Pty Ltd (trading
as TOHO 9000 Australia), the sole agent for the Pacific region. Since then the company has
monitored large numbers of client field trials and the results have been phenomenally
positive.

How does TOHO 9000 work?
Effects and Characteristics of TOHO 9000
Without TOHO 9000
Regular new engine oil is liquid and as shown in the Diagram A below (Panel 1), the micro
particles smaller than 1/100 micron move freely within the oil. As these micro particles
mix with the oxide, carbon and sulfuric acid produced by combustion in the engine, they
bind together and form much larger particles (Panel 2). Although these larger particles
are not really solid masses, as they increase in size they effectively increase the viscosity of
the oil.
These larger particles cannot pass through the oil filter and will eventually cause the filter
to become clogged and ineffective. Thus, the quality of the oil is degraded as the filter
becomes ineffective and the larger particle groups and byproducts of combustion remain
unfiltered in the pool of lubricant oil used in the engine (Panel 3).
Panel 1 Panel 2 Panel 3
Diagram A ‐ Without TOHO 9000
With TOHO 9000
Using TOHO 9000 in regular engine oil limits particles from binding together to form larger
particles, thereby ensuring all the oil continues to pass through the filter, removing the
harmful byproducts of combustion. This maintains optimum engine performance and
reduces long term engine wear. The smaller TOHO 9000 particles attach to the larger oil
particles which lubricate the internal metal parts of the engine, providing anti‐rust and
anti‐corrosion protection, and also performing an effective cleaning action.

Diagram B ‐ Magnified Representation of a Metal Surface.
This diagram depicts how the fine TOHO 9000 particles attach and protect the metal
surface at a micro level compared to the much larger regular oil particles which provide
reduced protection.
Diagram C ‐ Magnified Representation of a regular oil particle
This diagram depicts how, by adding TOHO 9000 to regular engine oil, the TOHO 9000
micro particles suppress the binding of regular engine oil particles, preventing the oil
from becoming excessively viscous and degrading due to ineffective filtering of carbon
and other byproducts of combustion.
The dispersion/dissociation effect of TOHO 9000 ensures that the oil particles are
maintained at a diameter of less than 1 micron. The oil filter will not be blocked even after
extended usage (the size of the filter’s pore is one micron). Since the oil particles do not
7. Biblis Holdings Pty Ltd t/as TOHO 9000 Australia version 2-4 Page: 7
clog the filter, it can continue to function for a life span of 4 to 10 times the normal life of
a filter. Even though the sludge carbon will float in the oil as micro particles, causing the
color of the oil to turn black, this does not mean that the oil has degraded. It still
maintains its protective qualities.
In addition to significantly extending oil and filter life, TOHO 9000 cleans the internal parts
of the engine, reduces wear of the cylinder and piston rings and lowers sludge formation
behind piston rings, helping to reduce ‘sticking’.
Diagram D – TOHO 9000 Cleaning Effect
TOHO 9000 does not evaporate even at high temperatures. Most regular engine oils stick to
the cylinder and are vaporized at high temperatures meaning that lost oil must be
repeatedly replenished. Because TOHO 9000 minimises evaporation this further
contributes to lower oil consumption.
TOHO 9000 has a friction coefficient lower than half that of regular engine oil. Engines run
noticeably quieter and smoother without wasting oil, and at the same time they deliver
increased power and have a lower exhaust temperature.

Product Capabilities & Savings
As a complete oil fortifier, TOHO 9000 brings a range of benefits well beyond regular oil
additives and is proven to deliver significant cost savings and other benefits to the user.
These benefits include ‐
• Lower oil consumption ‐ saving 80+% compared to conventional and synthetic
oils. The reduction in waste oil is also a significant environmental benefit.
• Lower fuel consumption – saving 5% ‐ 7% and further reducing pollution.
• Extends engine life due to greater protection resulting in reduced wear and tear.
• Material savings through increased performance, reduced downtime (scheduled
and unscheduled), increased productivity and improved reliability.
• Improved performance – engines run smoother and power is increased.
• Lower downtime due to less time spent changing oil and greater reliability.
• Major reduction in oil stock and filter holdings due to the reduction in oil
change frequency.
• Better utilisation of workshop time.
• Reduced administration (less purchasing and stock control of oil and filters).
TOHO 9000 is 100% mineral based and contains no PTFE (Teflon). The product is well
proven in a wide range of applications and is supported by extensive laboratory and field

TOHO 9000 Longevity
Over the past 15 years TOHO Australia has submitted over 600 successfully tested oil
samplings. Recently one of our clients, Marrickville Council ran one of their vehicles past
3000 operating hours just to prove the point that TOHO 9000 continues to perform past the
warranted 2,500 hours. The TOHO 9000 treated oil continued to perform without signs of
material degradation.
The next page (10) shows graphs of the trends in some of the key elements analysed by
the test laboratory, Oil Check Pty Ltd, for the vehicle that has operated for more than
3000 hours. The graphs reveal that after a ‘settling in’ period the test measures generally
stabilise within a range – all well below the warning levels.
Attached as page 11 is the latest oil test report which lists the detailed results and warning
values for the last four test reports on the same vehicle.
This information is powerful proof that TOHO 9000 delivers on its promised performance
and unlike many other additives it actually fortifies oil to greatly enhance performance
and extend it’s useful life.
