How does my poster use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products?
My poster used conventions from various
examples that I researched. One of these
                                                 examples is The Star.

The Star used a very minimalistic
                                                 approach, utilising a rather plain
background with one bold image in the
centre, and a minimal amount of text
                                                 surrounding it

In my poster I also opted for a minimalistic
approach. As you can see I too have used a
plain background, with a big bold picture of a
man using a megaphone, which links in with
my theme of Liverpool ‘Voice’.
I chose to use this minimalist approach as
I believe it is the most effective method
used for attracting attention. The bold
picture and bright red and blue boxes
draw in the audience, and the minimal
amount of information means that even
with a quick glance the reader will receive
all of the necessary information I wanted
to convey.
In addition, I took inspiration from other newspaper posters
that I had researched, The Guardian/Observer was one of
                                  them.
I particularly liked the use of boxes in the bottom right
corner of this poster, and I decided to develop this
convention by adding the same sort of thing to my
poster, but instead use the colour scheme of my own
                                  product blue and red).

I followed typical newspaper/poster
conventions by adding my product logo
on to my poster. This is to keep
consistency throughout all my
platforms and so the audience can
easily identify my product on a
newsstand from memory of the poster
I also used typical
                                                                   conventions by using
                                                                   imagery that matches my
                                                                   logo. The man with a
                                                                   megaphone fits in with the
                                                                   theme of Liverpool Voice by
                                                                   showing a local person
                                                                   using a megaphone to
                                                                   amplify his voice. I thought
                                                                   this was effective imagery
as I had already used the
liver bird in my logo, and I
                                                                   needed something different
that was more related to my
                                                                   actual product than the city
                                                                   of Liverpool

However, I did challenge typical poster conventions by placing my logo in the bottom left
corner of the page as opposed to the top right corner. I decided to do this because I thought
the text at the top of the page would lead the reader to the inevitable conclusion (the Liverpool
Voice). I also challenged conventions by adding the text ‘out now’ with the price of the
newspaper. As it is a new product it needs something to stand out against all the other
newspapers, so I believe adding a competitive price tag would attract further attention

I also usedtypical conventions by using imagery that matches my logo. The man with a megaphone fits in with the theme of Liverpool Voice by showing a local person using a megaphone to amplify his voice. I thought this was effective imagery as I had already used the liver bird in my logo, and I needed something different that was more related to my actual product than the city of Liverpool However, I did challenge typical poster conventions by placing my logo in the bottom left corner of the page as opposed to the top right corner.
