3. Evergreen, Colorado: A Mountain Community
Named for the forests of pine and blue spruce that permeate
the region, Evergreen also contains a number of aspen groves
that erupt into brilliant, golden color in the fall. People live in
and visit Evergreen for all different reasons. Some come to
explore the area’s extensive parks and trails, including the
nearby Mount Evans, one of the highest peaks in the
contiguous United States. They also visit on their way to the
major ski resorts located an hour away. Some prefer
Evergreen for the community’s variety of fine dining
establishments, spas, art galleries, and boutique shops, while
still others enjoy learning about the history of the region and
the once-prevalent Evergreen mountain resorts that hosted all
manner of celebrities and politicians, including two
presidents, during their heydays in the early 1900s.
