  • 1. Formula for Success! ~A guide on how to answer reading questions.
  • 2. Formulas
    • Get ready to become an expert at answering reading comprehension questions!
    • Simply follow these formulas by filling in the blanks with your answers.
  • 3. Quick Tips
    • Read the questions before the story, so you know what to look for!
    • Other words for “story” are “text” and “passage!”
    • Avoid using pronouns in your answer, like he or she. Use names!
    • When the questions asks for you to use a detail from the text, use more than one! Tell ALL you know with several details from the text if they support your answer.
    • Underline details from the text and then copy them into the Formula for Success!
  • 4. Secret Formula:
    • First, restate the question!
    • Example: What is your name? My name is...
    • Next, answer the question! My name is Billy Bob.
    • Then, if you see the words “use details from the text” write these words.
    • I know this because the story says
    • _____________ AND ___________!
    • Last, fill in your details after underlining them in the story. It’s really easy!!
  • 5. Read the story “The Box in the Barn” after reading the story’s questions so you know what to look for!
