Formal Proposal.
Here are a few things that I wish to take on to make my work successful. I want to follow
the basics of AIDA. I want to follow on the lines of MOJO Mo town music magazine. And
how they have presented their magazine. To make it my own I will take my own original
pictures and ask around for peer assessment. I want to stick to the same colours as the
Mojo magazine Mo town edition because they use very rich colours and that’s what drew
my eye to the magazine.

A – Attract audience, use of bright colours, image and text
I – Interest, articles and sell lines should entice the audience.
D – Desire, lure the reader by adding competitions, posters or give freebies
A – Act – people to buy your product, motivate them into purchasing, for example, creating
a sense of urgency with a limited-time offer or limited supply.

B. Research into real music magazines (summary of findings)
generic conventions of music magazines.

When researching real music magazines. I found that the basic features and elements are
the same. Like the rule of thirds and the masthead positioning and so forth. Initially I plan
on sticking to the generic conventions of what we expect to see in a music magazine. The
cover lines can be spread out anywhere in the second and third columns (rule of thirds).
May be showing different fonts or colors. But my color scheme and layout will be
efficient.

Front covers must have;
Masthead to be featured at the top of the magazine. And is important because
it’s the main advertising feature, used needed for the logo or magazine name.
Also show what target audience it is for.
Barcode/price/date is important for both the buyer and the seller because as the
buyer we look on the date to see if were up-to-date with the magazine also the
price is targeted in classes. Depending on your working/non-working class status
we can see if the magazine is for us.
striking image (consistent with genre), it’s what we expect to see so if the image is
presented in a different way it will attract us more to buy it.

Contents pages have
word “contents” at top- this helps us to know what it is..its a must have in a
      magazine.
The date/issue number helps us to keep on track and up to date with what were
      doing.
range of images all anchored with text and page number
use columns for text with subheadings such as features/gossip/gig guides etc
tile of magazine is to be found somewhere on page
contents clearly links with cover in terms of style and genre

The Double Page Spread Article
Rianna Landell

very image dominated with image anchored with text
Written article has dramatic main heading (short and snappy) with subheading
(summarizing what article is going to be about)
The copy/text is written in paragraphs (generally between 2-3)
All 3 parts of the magazine are clearly connected using a range of elements
       including:
same font choices throughout (generally around 3 types)
       same color scheme/themes
magazine title/slogan is on all 3 pages
Info on front is carried through into contents and then onto article
Contents are consistent with the chosen genre i.e. Rock magazines would feature
       Rock bands/music/scene/gigs etc.
Same style of language/attitude throughout i.e. Rock breaking the
       rules/rebellious attitude

Summary of Research into genre:
My chosen genre is Motown and I found that:
It doesn’t target a wide group of people but the genre is interesting to the
      audience.
I also found out that Mo town is one of the most popular music genre’s to date.

Summary of research into my chosen style model for my magazine (which is Mo
   town…….)

Below are images of my chosen magazine on which I would like to base my
   magazine:

Target audience research

Overall conclusion of my target audience research using questionnaires.
I can conclude the following and will summarise how this will affect the making of my
magazine:

   1. THE COVER SHOULD BE:
Pale colors, and rich color to fit the genre.
feature images of top Mo town bands (the most popular artists were
           Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.
offer freebies such as posters/band merchandise (will look at Mo town
and see how it incorporates freebies
have exclusive and old edition sell-lines as well as Mo town or RnB related
           cover-lines
Main image of any Mo town star
Different images/shots etc. relating to Mo Town.

   2. THE CONTENTS SHOULD INCLUDE:
Special edition interviews such as music and celebrity news featuring their
lives and the things they do in their spare time.
Band/group info and what they plan on recording in the next couple of years
lots of variety of Mo town images and info
        legendary singles and tracks
        minimum of 50 pages
gig/performance guides to attract the audience.
interviews with bands such as The Supremes or the Jackson 5

   3. THE ARTICLE SHOULD BE:
Quite informal with a hint of humour.
         include questions and answers
         have lots of images
use sub-headings to break up writing
be about the music but interesting-possibly with fashion and/or politics
   4. GENERAL INFO
None of my potential target audience have ever bought a music mag, but
would consider it if the price were right and was more focused to them. The
majority thought around £2.00 was ok and most felt the current magazines
were targeted more to Males who were in their twenties and thirties
I also have to work on attracting the audience in the first place as there is a
real gap in the market for my magazine which targets females (aged 16-24)
and interested in pop/chart music. I will analyse my target audience
questionnaires and focus groups in more detail so I can work hard on giving
the audience what they want and therefore attract them to buy the magazine.
