Does my arse look big in this? I think I still need to work on my appearance. I’m relaxing having a read here. I can zoom in on that book and actually read it on my computer screen too. It’s also a nice quiet place to meet other similarly minded people. On a final note - there are those who say a lot of people pull out in SL. All I have to say to that is ’I always wondered whatmy avatar was doing with his hand there’.

As I mentioned earlier there are lots of events in SL. This one is a disco. Your avatar actually dances. What’s the point my (real life) wife asked? Well you get to meet a whole host of other really interesting people from around the world while listening to some cool music. I’m usually there while doing work on my computer and flit in and out of AFK (Away From Keyboard).

Sigh! One of those other reallife things that I can’t afford in real life. Nor, by the looks of it, in SL either. I’m going to have to get a job to be able to afford a few things here. Believe it or not though I’ve seen job opportunities here for DJs, bouncers, dancers, greeters and a whole host of other things. It’s just a matter of knowing where to look. They pay a SL salary though which is nowhere near (yet) a real life salary.

And there it is in the background. It’s the script library. Scripts are like programs which make the objects in SL behave like their real life counterparts. You can get classes here too to help you but being illiterate in this field I just go to pick up the freebies. I also used the ’search’ window you can see here to find the place and then teleport (TP) over to the place.

This is a map of part f SL. I don’t know how big this world is but I started to fly over it once, left a heavy object on my fly forward cursor, went off had lunch and when I came back I was still flying forward. Who knows how big it is now. I wanted to go to the round white building you can see just off centre to the left.

Here’s a bit of a close up. I’m making a bit of a mess of it - you do need a lot of practice. I’ve actually clicked on the land under my objects here (they are the brown like things) but luckily the person who owns it pays for a land account and one of the priviledges they have is that noone else gets to mess about with what they make. I need to close my inventory window on the bottom right too and just use my build window on the top left.

It’s difficult to see here but I’m actually having a stab at building something here. I’m rezzing a prim onto the ground and I’m going to mould it’s appearance and maybe apply a texture. Er what? To the uninitiated - I’m going to point at the ground and magic up a square box then slap a picture on it to make it look like an object in the real world.

Here’s me using one of the ’adjust your appearance’ pop-up windows to change the look of my avatar. Be careful when making a comment on his looks as this one happens to bear a striking similarity to how I look in Real life (RL). A lot of people’s avatars don’t though and you get plenty of weird and wonderful . . . er . . . avatars to look at.

A lot of people make money in Secondlife (SL) be designing things. In fact all the objects you’ve seen so far were designed by someone signing up into SL. They make anything from jewelry to clothes, houses to transport, avatar costumes to avatar beings. I didn’t have any of these skills at the beginning or too much Linden to buy them so I looked for freebies, like the ones you see in the picture, to kit myself out with stuff.
