A general overview of Google Glass, its uses in healthcare/information technology, and how librarians can play a role in pioneering this type of technology.
How to Troubleshoot Apps for the Modern Connected Worker
Breezing Along with the RML: Google Glass
1. Google Glass @ KUMC

2. It started with a tweet…
Google started an #IfIHadGlass essay contest in March of
2013.
I tweeted and then wrote an essay about how I would use
Google Glass within a library.
Though I wasn’t chosen in the first round (8,000 winners), I
was chosen in the second round!
3. Then I received an email…
The offer was only good for 7
days and was sent on a Friday
afternoon.
After the weekend, I mentioned
it to Heather and she helped set
the ball in motion!
We purchased Glass on the last
day it was available, and it was
shipped the next day!
It was even shipped same day
air!

19. Google Glass + Project Tango
What can I do with it?
What if you could walk
into a store and see
exactly where that thing
you need to buy is, or
play hide-and-seek in
your home with that
character from your
favorite game, or help
the visually-impaired
navigate that place they
have never been able to
go on their own?
Think of the library
applications!!!

20. Google Goggles + Google Glass
Search by taking a picture: point your mobile phone camera at a
painting, a famous landmark, a barcode or QR code, a product, or
a popular image. If Goggles finds it in its database, it will provide
you with useful information. Goggles can read text in English,
French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and
Turkish, and translate it into other languages.
Goggles also works as a barcode / QR code scanner.
•Features:
-Scan barcodes using Goggles to get product information
-Scan QR codes using Goggles to extract information
-Recognize famous landmarks
-Translate by taking a picture of foreign language text
-Add Contacts by scanning business cards or QR codes
-Scan text using Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
-Recognize paintings, books, DVDs, CDs, and just about any 2D
image
-Solve Sudoku puzzles
-Find similar products
21. Google Glass + EMR’s
• Doctor Credits
Google Glass for
Saving this
Patient’s Life
“he man knew he was allergic to certain blood
pressure medications, but could not recall the exact
names. He had also taken a blood thinner which
further complicated the situation. Since giving the
patient the wrong drug or inaccurate dosage could do
more harm than good, Horng needed to know the
man's specific allergies. Yet stepping out of the room
to check his file or do some research, could have put
the man's life in danger.
So Horng turned to Google Glass and quickly asked the
device, which can access any patient files, to pull up
the man's medical records. Horng had his answer
almost instantly and was able to administer the right
medications to slow the bleeding and save the man's
life, he recalled to HuffPost.”
