ARISE ARJUNA
     HINDUISM AND THE MODERN WORLD
Presentation based on a
book by
David Frawley(Vamadev Shastri)
MODERN WORLD NEEDS INDIA’S HELP
 The western world has only succeeded in greed,
materialism & religious dogma, not in the spiritual
    life.

 Islamic countries are still caught in a karma of
violence and oppression, a religion that is more a
political movement to gain worldly power than any
    spiritual search.

 So, India alone as a country has the potential to
take the role of spiritually guiding the world
 People are of view that Westerners should not
follow Eastern culture because western culture is
    individualistic.

 However Hindu thought is the most individualistic in
the world. It teaches that the individual, that you
yourself are God or the Divine power behind the
    universe.
BUT INDIA TODAY IS FILLED WITH
CORRUPTION, IGNORANCE AND SERVILITY. IT
DOES NOT REPRESENT THE SOUL OF INDIA
BUT ONLY ITS SHADOW.
LET INDIA AWAKEN AND FOR THIS TRUE SOUL
OF ARJUNA MUST ARISE.
HINDUS HAVE STRAYED AWAY FROM THE PATH
                      OF RELIGION
 Most of the Hindus are ignorant of their own culture
    and tradition.

 The educational system of India itself follows
    primarily Western standards and values.

 They follow a Marxist-Socialist model with its
    atheistic and anti-nationalist orientation.

 As a result, modern Hindus blame the Hindu
religion for the social problems in India.
MISINTERPRETATION OF HINDUISM
 Some problems that India is facing today like caste
system, has their roots in the Hindu social system.

 But these are not based on a real understanding of
Hindu cultural forms but on their misapplication
    through time.

 Traditional Hindu spiritual values promote a culture
of Dharma. A yogic way of life, a life in harmony
with the universe, though recognizing the same self
    in all beings.
MISREPRESENTATION OF HINDUISM IN
PRESS
 Indian news media itself presents anti-Hindu
    attitude which are very common.

 Anti-Hindu statements are accepted by everyone
    and no one questions them.

 India can never rise up as long as it is attacking
    itself
AYODHYA INCIDENT, DECEMBER 1992
BABRI MOSQUE
 Babri mosque was demolished by Hindus. The site
was claimed by Hindus as the original location of a
great Hindu temple of Lord Rama.

 The site was not in any Muslim holy place like
Mecca or Medina but in one of the seven sacred
    cities of Hindus.

 Muslim invaders destroyed the sacred Hindu
temple and built a mosque their.

NEWSPAPERS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
STATED THAT “HINDU MILITANTS
DESTROYED MOSQUE” PROJECTING THE
IMAGE OF HINDUS BOTH AS MILITANTS AND
AS MOSQUE DESTROYERS.
WHY IS THE DESTRUCTION OF A HINDU
TEMPLE IS NOT A NEWSWORTHY ITEM, BUT
THE DESTRUCTION OF ONE DISPUTED
MOSQUE WORTH GLOBAL HEADLINE?
UNDERSTANDING HINDUISM
EXTENSIVE CULTURE
 The music of India is Hindustani, based upon Hindu and
Sanskrit works going back to the Sama Veda.

 The dance is based upon Hindu temple dance.

 The native medicine, Ayurveda, is rooted in the Vedas
themselves, as is the astrology, Jyotish.

 The poetry and drama tradition revolves around Hindu
    mythology.

 The exercise tradition of Hatha yoga is rooted in the
    religious sadhna tradition.

 The literature and philosophy all looks back to Sanskrit,
    which derives from the Vedas.
Natraj
Bharatnatyam
 The message of Vedanta is not limited to any religion,
philosophy or science but it is the ultimate goal of all
    human striving.

 Over the last hundred years many Americans have
taken up the physical side of yoga but few have given
attention to its spiritual side or Vedanta.
“LIVING IN THE MIDST OF IGNORANCE,
CONSIDERING THEMSELVES TO BE WISE, THE

DELUDED WANDER CONFUSED, LIKE THE BLIND

LED BY BLIND. THE WAY TO TRUTH DOES NOT
APPEAR TO A CONFUSED IMMATURE MIND,

DELUDED BY ILLUSION OF WEALTH. THINKING
THAT THIS WORLD ALONE EXISTS AND THERE IS

NOTHING BEYOND, THEY EVER RETURN AGAIN

AND AGAIN TO THE NET OF DEATH.”

Katha Upanishad
VIVEKANANDA AND VEDANTA
 For Vivekananda the essence of Hinduism was
Vedanta, the way of Self-realization, not merely the
    Hindu social structure.

 Vivekananda was a philosophical Hindu, a great
lover of Sanskrit, the Vedas, Hindu music and all
    the Hindu culture.

 Unlike Muslims, he never seek to impose this
culture on other but he was happy to share it with
    others.
Swami Vivekananda
 Those who proclaim all religion are one, seldom
define what all religion have in common.

 They do not see themselves as paths to God but
only as ways of better relating to God.

 Christianity and Islam do not aim at union with God
or even consider it to be possible. Their goal is to
    reach heaven.

 God-realization or self-realization is the Hindu
    sense of religion.
ACCORDING TO VIVEKANANDA:
MOHAMMED LIKE MANY UNTRAINED PEOPLE IN
THE SPIRITUAL LIFE, UPON HAVING A
SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE JUMPED TO THE
CONCLUSION THAT HE HAD THE WORD OF
GOD, AND THAT WORLD SHOULD FOLLOW THE
RELIGION GOD HAD REVEALED HIM.
ALLAH-MOHAMMED’S JEALOUS GOD
 There is a popular belief among Muslims masses
that Allah will forgive them for all his sins just
    because he is a Muslim.

 If Quran says that everybody is equal in the eyes of
God, than why he created kafirs to be massacred
    by Muslims?

 Genocide and persecution of kafirs by Muslims has
been suppressed in the name of communal
    harmony.

 Mohammed’s god possesses emotions like anger
and jealousy. He talks of chosen people and they
may involve in violence with kafirs.
ISLAMIC BELIEFS
 According to Islam no individual should proclaim “I
am God,” which is a delusion.

 For saying this in the 9th century Sufi Al-Hallaj was
cut into pieces and thrown into a river by Muslims.

 The reason is because Mohammed, the final
prophet, did not say this, and to claim even what
Mohammed did not, would be blasphemy of
    greatest order.
MOHAMMED AND THE QURAN
 Koran is a book with much poetry, history and theology,
but not the word of God.

 It does not speak of absolute truth like meditation, karma
    or liberation.

 Muslims are proud of the genocide and conquest that
Islam has made in its invasion of other countries.

 The connection with God they seek is going to heaven. It
is not the liberation cycle of birth and death.
ARYAN INVASION THEORY
 Europeans invented this idea of Aryan Invasion.

 However there is no historical evidence of Aryan
    Invasion Theory. New archeological evidences
    discard Aryan Invasion Theory.

 Yet this is the kind of thinking that has been
superimposed upon the history of India.
Map of Harappan civilization
 The Aryan Invasion theory has become a matter of
    political importance in the country.

 The British rulers of colonial India, Marxists
scholars and politicians, Christian missionaries &
Muslim groups have used the Aryan Invasion theory to
    discredit and divide Hindu culture.

 India now look at its ancient history anew, in the light of
the collapse of the Aryan Invasion theory.
IS THE ARYAN INVASION THEORY IS NOT TRUE
IT MEANS THAT INDIA IS THE OLDEST MOST
CONTINUOUS CIVILIZATION IN THE WORLD,
WITH THE OLDEST AND MOST EXTENSIVE
LITERATURE(THE VEDAS), AND IS THEREFORE
ONE OF THE GREAT CENTERS OF WORLD
CIVILIZATION.
If Westerners really want to help the people of Asia
they should teach them practical and humanitarian
ways to organize their society.

When they try to convert them to Western religions
they are doing both them and themselves a
disservice because religion is what the East already
has, and what the West needs to seek from it.
THE VEDAS ARE THE PART OF EACH ONE OF
US BY THE VERY FACT THAT WE ARE HUMAN
BEINGS.

THE VEDAS ARE THE LANGUAGE OF NATURE
NOT AS OUTER PHENOMENA BUT AS A POETRY
OF THE SOUL.

  • 15. NEWSPAPERS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD STATED THAT “HINDU MILITANTS DESTROYED MOSQUE” PROJECTING THE IMAGE OF HINDUS BOTH AS MILITANTS AND AS MOSQUE DESTROYERS.
  • 16. WHY IS THE DESTRUCTION OF A HINDU TEMPLE IS NOT A NEWSWORTHY ITEM, BUT THE DESTRUCTION OF ONE DISPUTED MOSQUE WORTH GLOBAL HEADLINE?
  • 18. EXTENSIVE CULTURE  The music of India is Hindustani, based upon Hindu and Sanskrit works going back to the Sama Veda.  The dance is based upon Hindu temple dance.  The native medicine, Ayurveda, is rooted in the Vedas themselves, as is the astrology, Jyotish.  The poetry and drama tradition revolves around Hindu mythology.  The exercise tradition of Hatha yoga is rooted in the religious sadhna tradition.  The literature and philosophy all looks back to Sanskrit, which derives from the Vedas.

  • 22. The message of Vedanta is not limited to any religion, philosophy or science but it is the ultimate goal of all human striving.  Over the last hundred years many Americans have taken up the physical side of yoga but few have given attention to its spiritual side or Vedanta.
  • 23. “LIVING IN THE MIDST OF IGNORANCE, CONSIDERING THEMSELVES TO BE WISE, THE DELUDED WANDER CONFUSED, LIKE THE BLIND LED BY BLIND. THE WAY TO TRUTH DOES NOT APPEAR TO A CONFUSED IMMATURE MIND, DELUDED BY ILLUSION OF WEALTH. THINKING THAT THIS WORLD ALONE EXISTS AND THERE IS NOTHING BEYOND, THEY EVER RETURN AGAIN AND AGAIN TO THE NET OF DEATH.” Katha Upanishad
  • 24. VIVEKANANDA AND VEDANTA  For Vivekananda the essence of Hinduism was Vedanta, the way of Self-realization, not merely the Hindu social structure.  Vivekananda was a philosophical Hindu, a great lover of Sanskrit, the Vedas, Hindu music and all the Hindu culture.  Unlike Muslims, he never seek to impose this culture on other but he was happy to share it with others.
  • 26. Those who proclaim all religion are one, seldom define what all religion have in common.  They do not see themselves as paths to God but only as ways of better relating to God.  Christianity and Islam do not aim at union with God or even consider it to be possible. Their goal is to reach heaven.  God-realization or self-realization is the Hindu sense of religion.
  • 27. ACCORDING TO VIVEKANANDA: MOHAMMED LIKE MANY UNTRAINED PEOPLE IN THE SPIRITUAL LIFE, UPON HAVING A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE JUMPED TO THE CONCLUSION THAT HE HAD THE WORD OF GOD, AND THAT WORLD SHOULD FOLLOW THE RELIGION GOD HAD REVEALED HIM.
  • 28. ALLAH-MOHAMMED’S JEALOUS GOD  There is a popular belief among Muslims masses that Allah will forgive them for all his sins just because he is a Muslim.  If Quran says that everybody is equal in the eyes of God, than why he created kafirs to be massacred by Muslims?  Genocide and persecution of kafirs by Muslims has been suppressed in the name of communal harmony.  Mohammed’s god possesses emotions like anger and jealousy. He talks of chosen people and they may involve in violence with kafirs.
  • 29. ISLAMIC BELIEFS  According to Islam no individual should proclaim “I am God,” which is a delusion.  For saying this in the 9th century Sufi Al-Hallaj was cut into pieces and thrown into a river by Muslims.  The reason is because Mohammed, the final prophet, did not say this, and to claim even what Mohammed did not, would be blasphemy of greatest order.
  • 30. MOHAMMED AND THE QURAN  Koran is a book with much poetry, history and theology, but not the word of God.  It does not speak of absolute truth like meditation, karma or liberation.  Muslims are proud of the genocide and conquest that Islam has made in its invasion of other countries.  The connection with God they seek is going to heaven. It is not the liberation cycle of birth and death.
  • 32. Europeans invented this idea of Aryan Invasion.  However there is no historical evidence of Aryan Invasion Theory. New archeological evidences discard Aryan Invasion Theory.  Yet this is the kind of thinking that has been superimposed upon the history of India.
  • 33. Map of Harappan civilization
  • 34. The Aryan Invasion theory has become a matter of political importance in the country.  The British rulers of colonial India, Marxists scholars and politicians, Christian missionaries & Muslim groups have used the Aryan Invasion theory to discredit and divide Hindu culture.  India now look at its ancient history anew, in the light of the collapse of the Aryan Invasion theory.
  • 35. IS THE ARYAN INVASION THEORY IS NOT TRUE IT MEANS THAT INDIA IS THE OLDEST MOST CONTINUOUS CIVILIZATION IN THE WORLD, WITH THE OLDEST AND MOST EXTENSIVE LITERATURE(THE VEDAS), AND IS THEREFORE ONE OF THE GREAT CENTERS OF WORLD CIVILIZATION.
  • 36. If Westerners really want to help the people of Asia they should teach them practical and humanitarian ways to organize their society. When they try to convert them to Western religions they are doing both them and themselves a disservice because religion is what the East already has, and what the West needs to seek from it.
  • 37. THE VEDAS ARE THE PART OF EACH ONE OF US BY THE VERY FACT THAT WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS. THE VEDAS ARE THE LANGUAGE OF NATURE NOT AS OUTER PHENOMENA BUT AS A POETRY OF THE SOUL.
