4. Proteins have to be folded into their final active state, most often corresponding to
a specific three dimensional conformation and maintained in that state.
When a protein is converted to a state that differs from its native state, it is
considered a misfolded protein.
Misfolded proteins have a tendency to self-aggregate.
The failure of a protein to adopt or remain in its native conformational state results
in a protein conformational disorder (PCD).
